Tractor
Kubota M6800,Ford 801,MF 65, Kubota L305
I have been looking at cabbed tractors in the 35-40 HP range. My main jobs will be a 6 foot finish mower (preferably a 7 foot if possible) and a snowblower to do a roughly 1500' driveway and parking area. I will have a backblade on the back during winter also. I do not need or want a loader on this tractor since I have a Kubota M6800 with loader so this tractor will be my gentleman tractor to have my coffee in while plowing and a cold pepsi while mowing 12 acres of clover. I stopped at my dealer today and seen a L3560 111 ci and a L4060 148 ci which seem to be in the ideal range of motor size since I heed the actual HP ratings. A nice used 500 hr model would be really nice since some new price depreciation would be gone. But when I start looking at earlier models of the above model types, it gets crazy how many are out there that may be up to 15 yrs old but still have pretty low hrs. Any help in suggestions on what I should look at with my actual needs ? Also any models to stay away from ?

I have the L4060 with cab and am extremely satisfied with it. I bought it for commercial use and the BH92 is exactly what I needed for the jobs I’m doing, it’s a beast for a tractor mounted BH. I don’t mow just move materials, excavate and snow removal with pusher box (all asphalt or concrete surfaces). The cab is wonderful. My previous skid steer had heat but no A/C and now that I’m a senior citizen I really appreciate the comfort during high heat and humidity. The HST+ is sweet and I like auto throttle advance. Toggling through menu’s is a PITA.

you might also look at the MX series w/hst, something slightly larger than what you're looking at for unseen future needs. good luck, hope you make the right choice the 1st time through

That^

It's an economy tractor with a lot of HP/capabilities that are great for tasks like brush hogging etc. At the very least price one out, you'll probably be surprised.

The Kubota Grand L cabs are nice. I looked used but prices were high so I went new with zero percent and kept my money. The other thing by buying new I was able to add the accessories I wanted.

We have MX5400 ROPS with HST, love it plenty of power, nice weight, very stable. My 3rd Kubota and like best of all.

another way of looking @ choosing the right model: you are going to pay a premium for a cab regardless of model. i can't imagine paying for one for the smaller units you originally looked at. imho would be more cost effective to step up to a larger model to accommodate future needs & justify a big price tag
an MX hst in the 50hp range w/cab would be a dandy one for you. we like to spend your money

Like I have said this tractor will be a 2 job specific tractor since my other 2 tractors fit my bill nicely. I also am acquiring a Ford 1520 with 5' mid mount mower and rear Peco container type bagger with 8 hp independent motor. I also have a Ferris Z3100 for the rest of my mower needs around the house. Too big a tractor believe or not may be too big since my wife, daughter, daughter-in-law may be doing mowing also. Having those 2 tractors at the dealer to compare is nice. The L4060 with cab & 74" front blower is $48k & the L3560 with cab & loader is $38k. I do not need the loader on the one so that would help offset the cost of the snowblower. A rear blower is completely out of the question.

What kind of snowfalls are you looking at?

Anywhere from 3" to 24". And the 24" may have drifting if it is a blizzard. I live on a hill and my driveway will drift in when the banks get high. By springtime my driveway could be 8-10' over. Too much work for a snowplow which I did a lot with my truck. A blower, coffee, heated cab with tunes is the way I'd like to go. LOL

The grand L's are a little heavy for finish mowing IMO.

But that depends on weather you are finish mowing a big country yard / pasture.....or if you want a prestine manicured lawn around the house

Can't speak from personal experience, but others say snowblowers need plenty of horsepower, particularly in deep snow. Something to consider as you're kicking tires. Good luck in your search for the right tractor!

Yup. Great field/pasture mower. But it tears up turf a bit if you turn sharp at all.

I'm mostly happy with my L4060. I run a big flail at high altitude & wish I could have afforded a L6060 for the extra HP. I just mow slowe & its fine.

A Grand L is a lot heavier than an economy L but lots more bells & whistles. You can do without them, but some are nice, mostly the 2 speed HST+ or GST. I upgraded from a L3200 for the cab & Have come to love HST+ as much as the cab.

If you are looking for a cab. A Grand L is your only option at that size. The only main difference between the 60 series & previous 40 series is the emissions. Lack of emissions gear on the 40s makes them desirable to many.

7' is a ******* rotary cutter size. Most go from 6' to a double spindle 8' skipping 7. A 7 is just to long & awkward.

Dealer had a L3560 & L4060 on the lot . Seen a L3710 online with a snowblower & 900 hrs in the low $20k range. This tractor will be for wide open fields that I want to give a nice cut look to. Probably will be all clover so will see any HD cutting.

Mowing or plowing wide open fields is a good candidate for a geared tranny, but snowblowing would really benefit from a HST. Any loader work would tip things even further towards HST.

All those listed are similar HP. The 2 60 series are the same machine with a slightly different engine. Especially with a HST it just comes down to how fast you want to do the job. Just let off the go pedal & they will lift the same or pull the same weight.

The 60 series has a small, medium & big loader. The 3560 & 4060 can only be speced with the small or medium. I see little reason to get the small as its not much cheaper.

When mowing with my L3560 (R4 tires), I can't say that I've seen the turf damage that others have -- unless I'm mowing when it's wet, or have 4WD engaged. Granted my soil tends to be relatively hard when not soaking wet so that may also play a role.

The L3560 will handle a 6ft finish mower pretty well (use a Land Pride FDR2572 for mowing my lawn and pasture ~2.75 acres). It does well mowing full width as long as the grass doesn't get too thick or tall/wet. If/when it does slowing down or using less than full deck width will still get the job done.

Now depending on the nature of the snow you get and how fast you want/need to be able to remove snow more HP may prove beneficial. Snow blowers are one of those implements where more HP/ft of implement working width can can have a meaningful impact as snow isn't always of a uniform consistency from snow fall to snow fall, and isn't always as accommodating of taking less than full implement width passes..... 6" of wet slushie falling from the sky isn't quite the same thing as 12"-24" of light powder (shoveling the latter of the two was always highly preferable to shoveling the former).

The 60 series also has a quick attach setup for the blower, blade, or broom. If that L4060 you're looking at has that feature, it sounds like an attractive option for your intended use. I have an L4060 with loader, and the fel was more important to me that the front implements.
The L4060 cab tractor has some weight to it, another big plus for snow removal. Stripped weight is just over 4000 lbs. Mine with loader and filled r4's is right around 6500.

I've been really satisfied with the L4060. The cab is awesome, as is the HST+ 3 range with hi/lo trans.

I've said before, the L4240 with loaded R4's is the best lawn mower I've had so far. The 5 blade 90" rear finish mower makes short work of our 3-1/2 acres. The tractor turns tighter than my little Ford 1210. Heat and A/C make it nice to use any time of the year. I always drop the FEL (frame and all) for mowing. Ripping things up or making tracks isn't a problem.

She still looks new.
