my lift lever has loosened up and will no longer stay back. My understanding is that i should try to tighten the nut on the end of the shaft and if that doesn't work then the friction washers need replacement. On the GTT forum a poster was saying i need to remove the wheel and fender- does anyone know if that can be avoided and how best to access?

Thanks

Removing likely offers better access so makes the task easier. Not a major job to remove. Just go slowly and carefully.

I realized that I never closed the loop on this.
I did, in fact have to remove the right rear wheel and fender, but this was surprisingly easy, even solo. The lever attaches to the shaft with 2 bolts, upon removing those you can pull it off. Underneath there is a bolt head- tighten that and the friction is increased. between the inner and outer shafts.
All in all straight forward
