Hello
Do you mean a 3pt hitch for a tractor that does not have one?
or a hitch for your 3pt.

I meant converting grey market tractors with 2 pt tillers to a standard Cat 1 3 pt. I will be constructing all brackets from scratch and was wondering what others are doing

I converted my 2-point Yanmar (tiller equipped) to a 3-point. Made all of the parts myself but you can also buy many 3-point parts from dealers. I have some photos + drawings which I could post or send you if you are interested.

Is there an industry spec, like an ANSI spec, for a catagory I 3-pt hitch? Before I begin to weld up some of my own implement, I would like to understand the specs.

Post them............

That looks great and it looks better than the factory 3pt on my Yanmar 1500.

Re: 3pt hitch (Specs)

Don't know if they are ANSI specs. but here is what I understand of the cat. specs that apply to the Cat 1 size equipment which is commonly used. • Cat "1", apparently aimed at for 20-45 hp equipment; pins on top link bar 3/4" dia at both ends; bottom pins 7/8" dia. at implement with 26" spacing between pins being standard. Beyond that, everything varies, which is why 3-point hitch has flexible adjustments:• Dimensions on length of top link bars varies with implements you use but my bar usually is set at 24-25" long.• Lift pin heights above ground at implement vary also. Maybe 12"-18" above ground with implement sitting on ground.• Top link pin height above ground on some of my implements is 28"-36" above ground with implement sitting on ground. Commercial agriculture uses heavier Cat 2 or 3 specs. Light Cat 0 is sometimes seen on very small tractors but it is not very common. Cat 1 is readily available.

Re: 3pt hitch (Photos)

I can post some of the basic photos I have of hitches but this forum seems to have a restrictive size limit on posting drawings & photos. I have some detailed plans & marked-up photos of hitches & parts but they exceed the forum's size limit so I can't post them. I tried but they could not be posted. If you want to see the detailed stuff we will have to use snail-mail and photocopies. Which I am willing to do if you want to see them and if you are willing to pay the postage. Contact me via the private message feature and I'll try to help you. One photo attached to this message. It is rear end of my tractor when I first removed the tiller: dirty, rusty, two lift arms but no three point hitch.

Photo of a 3-point on either a YM-1300 or 1500 at a roadside dealer's lot. This is what you often see locally fabricated to fit older YMs after the powered tiller is pulled off.

Here is another hitch. A lot of the dealers like to paint the older YMs "JD Green".
