3pt Sway?

Dob, talk about Ga. rocks, I dug about 80 of these out of my yard a few miles NW of you. Using them to fill in a ditch I'm putting a culvert in. Dug them out with a crowbar and hammer, rolled them onto the pond scoop, hauled and dumped. The pond scoop seems to be the perfect tool for the job.

Yep, Norm, those are the same rocks. I remember seeing that picture in another post, what brand is the scoop? I've been trying to persuade Jim & Pieter to start making them. Seems like the fel market has eaten into the ps market. I found a Kingcutter in AL for $215 (30"). And I like the red...

Back home in Fl. now and don't remember name brand. (Not a known brand). Mfg. in Boaz Al., $190 for 24" or 30", purchased from Maynard Equipment, located in Brownsboro and Scottsboro Al.

Thanks, I've got Maynard's number(s) and website from when I was shopping for the tractor. I have to go back to AL relatively soon - I have family in Anniston area, and I've borrowed my brother in law's truck & trailer for the planting excursion mentioned above. Maybe I'll swing through and get one.

I'm guessing yours is a Lowery? (Just did a little poking around, and found them). Did you have to do any aftermarket engineering on the scoop? I hear lots of folks talk about them not dumping properly etc.

For "sway" allowance in the 3pt, I follow a simple rule.
If I am pushing any attachment (i.e. rear blade, box blade, etc.) backwards, I take out all the sway I can. This keeps the "push" more straight away, and not kitty-wompus. Less likely to damage or break something this way.

If I am pulling a ground-engaging attachment (tiller, plow, disc harrow, sub-soiler, etc.) forwards, I leave plenty of sway, to allow the attachment to find its own path of least resistance, and to let the tractor move around corners with less side pressure applied to the attachment.

Other attachments just depend on how much slop I want to put up with - usually very little.

Right on both counts, Dob. It is a Lowry, and whoever assembled it obviously did not understand how it operates. The dump latch was torqued down so tight they broke off one of the brackets. Had to take it and get welded locally. ($5), and the bolts that the bucket swings on were also torqued down tight. I made spacers to center the dump latch for smoother operation and greased everything. Hooked up a pully to adjust direction of the dump rope. Touched up all paint, good as new. All in all, still a good deal for $190. I probably would have worked it over anyway, being the self proclaimed world class tinkerer that I am.
