3pt Turbo Saw

Sorry, can't help but appreciate the interesting link. Do you know how much the one with the built-in grapple costs? I might have considered that one when buying my tree shear.

No knowledge of this unit. Looks useful in some situations though. Like the mesquite wars members post about.

Seems like useful if you have a lot of smaller trees to cut in a pasture. It seems that it works very well with trees that have a lot of lower branches. The ones that don't, well it will probably be a bit more challenge for the grapnel to hold onto. I'm sure you can cut larger trees but even in the video it seems like they are hauling the one larger tree out of the woods sideways. Does not appear so useful in that case.

Good point. I've had to cut sparse tree trunks with the tree shear then come in later with a root grapple and try to use one set of opposing tines as "tweezers" to drag the tree out on a narrow trail. Not too efficent and you often lose the grip on turns.

It looks really appropriate for use from FEL SS QC.:)

I bet it would work great for tag alders. They grow like weeds in Northern WI. Lots of shoots. I jsut wonder how the tractor would hold up.

Thanks for the replies! I have sent an e-mail to their sales department asking about pricing. I have a ton of fenceline full of brush, small trees and larger trees (6 to 8") that I want to clean up. Looks like it might do the job. I have a Gator (Markham) grapple on my loader so unwieldy trees could be handled with it.

Keep us posted on the pricing. Looks neat but somehow I suspect the price won't be :(

I saw these folks at the Oklahoma City Farm Show. That thing is quite impressive. Looked to be very heavy built. They had a video of it in action running. They may have designed it for clearing pastures of Eastern Red Cedar here in Oklahoma. We get these as bad a Texas gets salt cedar and Mesquite. I don't recall a price though. 5-7000? not sure. My old memory doesn't last me anymore!

Thanks for the price info. I think it's more than I plan to spend :D

I'm still looking for a hydraulic chainsaw that would attach to a bucket. There are a couple of sickle bars that attach, but they seem fragile and limited in what they can handle.

Speaking of saw like this, I saw something the other day I had never envisioned:

They were trimming the branches on a power line right of way. A 50' pole with a dozen or more 2' spinning circular blades....hanging from a helicopter!

Maybe this is what you need then?

YouTube - Helicopter saw

Yes, that's what we saw. Thanks. Gosh, that pilot has to be crazy to operate so close to the lines like that! At least what we saw were just local distribution lines and the helicopter was well above the power lines.
