The first thing I did on my new tractor was to swap the flat face couplers with Pioneer.

I made this tool from a $12 welding clamp, which makes it a snap to connect & disconnect the fittings:

The only mod necessary was to grind the clamp opening to fit the notch in the connector barrel:

I didn't know the bar clamp tool existed so I made my own. It would be easier on a bar clamp as the free end of the clamp would not tend to want to rotate as you are trying to place it, but it works

I added a couple extra tabs to keep it from racking in use.

I made mine with a clamp, couple of bolts, 2 left-over sections of Uni-Strut....and 10 minutes of grinder work.

I had the same problem with my grapple. As others have mentioned, it is due to pressure buildup in the lines due to temperature changes. I built this simple apparatus to attach to the grapple ends of the connectors while in storage. Each side is simply the two plastic pieces viewed, available from any big box store, mated together to mount the skid steer connectors to keep dirt out, with a tiny hole drilled into the body to allow pressure relief of any buildup over time.

The last step of disconnecting the grapple from the tractor is to attach the modified connectors to the grapple lines. Works well.

I have a third function installed on my Kioti 3510 using the flat-faced skid steer connectors.

I can never get it connected without completely unscrewing all of the connectors and releasing pressure on both the tractor side and the attachment side.

I never have this problem with my rear remotes (pioneer connectors).

I always release the pressure on the tractor side of the hydraulics...

What am I doing wrong?

I had the same issue. found an article that said to cover the flat surface with a rag the tap it with a hammer. It releases the pressure and they go together nice. I was gun shy at first about hitting it with a hammer but was tired of fitting it every time. works great for me.

My theory is fluid is trapped between the coupler and the control valve so when the mating side of the coupler tries to displace that fluid, there's no place for the fluid to go. What works well for me is to somehow* hold the control valve open while connecting the attachment.

Also, Discount Hydraulics has self relieving flatfaced couplers that have worked for me most of the time.

*Either a wife or a C-clamp.

I've found that on my grapple that if I pry the jaws open that that helps reduce pressure in one of the lines: always just one line is bearing pressure. I don't have my tractor-side hoses fixed and that's the same on the grapple side which makes it quite the pain to connect having to hold the ends on both in order to push them together. I don't use the 3rd function all that much so I just kind of tolerate it (don't switch to the Pioneers).

My Kubota has pioneer connectors and depending on the temperature they won't connect.

I take a small screwdriver that I don't need, cut the shaft off and save the small handle. Then I use a rag (so it doesn't squirt) and a small hammer and tap either the male or female gently with the plastic end of the handle on the connector and it fixes it.
