3rd function, pressure can't connect

Most of the folks have posted good solutions. However the best way to prevent this is to replace the couplers with Parker 9500 series couplers. They will connect and disconnect under full pressure. They are simple to use and use the standard ag 1/2' couplers. Just push the coupler in and then flip the lever to allow flow. Since they couple when not under pressure no fighting with them to couple or uncouple. The lever acts as a valve and cuts the pressure off making them a one handed operation.

What are they 6x or 10x the price vs a standard coupler?

Yeah, they are not cheap. I tried to find the cheapest sites for comparison.
9500-4 $259

For Ag style:
Need 2 couplers the Parker 4250-4 are a push pull with breakaway so equivalent to the 9500-4 in that function.
2*19=$38
Clamp to hold the couplers
$19
Dust caps
2*2=$4
Total for normal units $61
So a little over 4x

For Flush Face
FEM is the skidsteer style flush face from Parker
2*83=$166

The tips for ag are $8 each

The tips for skidsteer are $40 a piece

So if you include the tips
9500-4 is $275
Regular ag is $77
Flush Face is $246

So if you do not need in excess of 12 GPM (op is 11GPM) and are using skidsteer couplers is $29 worth not having to fight couplers??
Also this assumes only one attachment. If you have multiple then the price of skidsteer couplers gets $$ fast.

What are they 6x or 10x the price vs a standard coupler?
They are lots more than a standard ag coupler. But the price difference is not bad if your using skidsteer couplers.

Stucchi plate coupler variation
Can you post part numbers needed and the cost? I have looked at the Parker and Faster versions and they were over $800. Single lever couplers would be Nice!

I don't have a recent price on Stucchi although they're in the same range. About 1000 per pair and the more attachments, the more coupler plates you need
Machine side - A34366

attachment plate - 65251

I had the same issue. found an article that said to cover the flat surface with a rag the tap it with a hammer. It releases the pressure and they go together nice. I was gun shy at first about hitting it with a hammer but was tired of fitting it every time. works great for me.
What I do and I hook and unhook a lot of hydraulic couplers. Have my wife hold the male or female end, cover it with a rag and use a brass punch and a hammer to pop the poppet and relieve the pressure. I lose some fluid in the process but I always have at least a full 5 gallon bucket on hand to refill if low.
