3rd function use in 2 places

A diverter valve will also allow for flexibilty and control in speed or force, and the switch can be placed anywhere desired.

I wouldn't be satisfied with any setup that required me to move my hand to a different lever for any of the three functions.

A grapple becomes such a valued attachment that you'll use it a LOT.
I agree.... after having a grapple it is amazing hoe often you will use it, & although I contemplated used one of the rear remotes, I'm so happy I decided to go with a dedicated diverter valve.... I installed a diverter valve on the FEL over a true 3rd function because I like the idea that I can feather the grapple closed (more importantly the tree / post puller) & never take my hand off the FEL control.

I also added 2 additional rear remotes for a total of 3 now... The additional remotes & the diverter valve are two of the best upgrades / investments I have made to the tractor.

A grapple becomes such a valued attachment that you'll use it a LOT. I built mine on a Lo Pro Bobcat bucket. My original Kubota bucket sits outside in the equipment row. I use it once a year max.

So, expect to use this attachment very frequently. Plumb it for maximum ease of use.
My old tractor had a pinned bucket so I never had anything else on my FEL in 27 years. I added a grapple with 3rd function switch on my new tractor. It was delivered with the grapple attached and has never been off. It is funny that I had always thought of my bucket as indispensable and thought I would only occasionally use the grapple... I have come to realize that most of what I used my loader bucket for in the past can be done with the grapple, and it sure is nice to come across a downed tree while mowing and be able to pick it up and move it instead of just pushing it out of the way. Amazing that I went that long without a grapple, never having imagined just how useful it is.

My $.02 is that a 3rd function is not an ideal solution for a grapple. The problem, at least for me, is the third function has no practical way to moderate the speed and force of the hydraulics that open and close the grapple. I had one installed on the last tractor I bought , used it for a day or two, added a flow limit valve which did not work, and went back to using the rear remote to operate the grapple so I could control it through the use of a real valve.

For the same money I could have added at least one, and maybe two, more remotes.

Yes you take your hand off of the loader valve. So what? On my tractor they are located adjacent to each other and it has no real effect for me.

As I said just my $.02.
What are you lifting that needs such fine control?

I can't answer for anyone else but being able to control the speed / force is a big help in picking up & stacking odd shaped items (say rocks, etc) when you want place something in a particular place. With the tree / post puller I couldn't imagine not being able to feather the jaws closed, otherwise it can go right through the small trees.

Again ours is a diverter valve & I install the switch right on the FEL control handle so no removing your hand back & forth.
