Oil & Fuel $4000 Repl. Cost for JD Compact Tractor Fuel Pump??

If it turns out to be the AM880247 pump, I'll get it for $3396.30. That's what we sell ours for.

I, too, would find a reputable pump shop to rebuild it before I bought a new one. They usually offer some kind of parts and labor warranty themselves.

Sounds like another case of basing the price on the number sold. If they were selling more they could lower the price.....My son got a rebuilt Chevy pump installed by a deisel shop for 1/2 of the dealers "on the counter" price with a warranttee better than GM's

I agree...BUT...think of it this way, if you DONT get a pump, what you gonna do with the tractor? Sell it for scrap metal?
Selling a "busted motor" tractor of any sort means you're pretty much selling it as scrap..so the guy you sell it to will run down to the dealer and get the pump and have a working tractor for a "normal price".

I agree with everyone else though...Pump shop or start researching the engine...Sometimes its cheaper to get it elsewhere, more then just Deere uses Yanmar's...

Close but not an injection pump. Its a yanmar motor in the 790 isn't it? Those things are popular in mini excavators and marine diesels, surely pump shops can help you out.

I can't verify this but a mechanic friend told me there are only two companies making injector pumps and they cross over to many applications. He put a Ford pump on his old JD for $600 when JD wanted $2500 for the same pump. Might be worth doing some research on after market sources.

Warning to any other homeowners wanting to enjoy a utility tractor for use in the yard. I was just quoted nearly $4K for a replacement pump for a tractor with only 120 hours on it.

Am I loosing my mind or is this highway robbery? I can not afford this.

Tractor ran fine. Parked for the winter. Got in to do some work and refused to start. Discovered I lost fuel on the front injector (1 of 3) at the injector pump. Any suggestions of how to reasonably replace, rebuild or has anyone else lost fuel on an injector pump like this? HELP...

Maybe one of those companies would be Bosch ?
A quick search for "diesel injector pump manufacturers" would probably confirm/deny what your friend told you.

1-8-2002 - bought the jd 790, hated the FEL
5-2-2009 - tractor won't start, replacing fuel lines to repair an air leak.
