Deere 4710/reverser, JD 318 (still needs TLC), JD LT160
Just got back from my dealer - no luck finding me a 4710 reverser /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif but my name is already on the first 4320 that comes in /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here are some brief specs for the new large frame JD Cuts. Some may be redundant with previous postings - but here goes:

Four models, 4120/4320/4520/4720. The 4120 and 4320 are the replacements for the 4610/4710 respectively. The more powerful 4520/4720 go into new territory power-wise but are the same chassis. All are MFWD. All specs listed below are in the 4120/4320/4520/4720 order.

ALL models use 4-cylinder, 149 cu in (2.44l) John Deere PowerTech turbocharged diesels. Engines now have glow plugs.

Gross Horsepower - 43/48/53/58 at 2400 rpm. (note new lower rating speed).

PTO Horsepower (reverser) 35.5/40.5/45.5/na
PTO Horsepower (hydro) 35/40/45/50

(note - only reverser and hydro trannys available - and hydro only on the flagship 4720)

Torque @ rated speed 91/102/113/123
Peak torque @ 1440 rpm 109/127/141/154

(I think that's a better rise than before).

Implement hydraulic flow is up - 12 gpm vs. 10.6
Steering hydraulic flow is down 5.1 vs. 5.3
Total 17.1 vs. 15.9 GPM

Pressure's the same (2500psi) as is 3 point lift capacity and class (I).

Overall weight is up - 3700 lb vs. 3450 lb.

Fuel capacity is up 14.5 vs. 12.5 gallons.

Unfortunately no pricing or other specs available yet. The dash layout is changed but the pic on the one-sheet is too small to make out much. Cannot see a fuel filler opening on the hood in the photo, but it's a bad angle. Likewise from the one rear shot can't tell if it is now a rear tank or not. They are supposed to start shipping Monday (6/7).

Are you sure they are ALL Turbos? It seems to me that there are an awful lot of versions for just detuning the injection... Would make a lot more sense that there are two injector setups, and then with normal or turbo aspiration, to make four versions. But then, nothing HAS to make sense...

Looks like the hood is one piece, thats great

The brakes are on the right, I guess thats a reverser in the pics.

Nothing new in the rear. How hard is it to hook up the pto shaft with iMatch in the way?

I looked at NH a lot when I was buying. I felt that the curved hood was far better than the squared off Kubota. But I didn't see much real difference between it and Deere's. The Deere LOOKED squared off, but actually had a lot of slope. ( I actually printed out pictures of both, at the same size and overlaid them, from the operators position, the difference was negligible...) But then, I would have had to go to a Class III boomer, compared to the Mid Chassis Deere...

I REALLY like the new loader's grease points!

They'll sure be more than I would need or could afford, but some mighty good looking machines !

The wrap around lights look nice, but they sure disappear with the loader in place.... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Hi Mike - Don't you think that's a problem with any front headlight placement? I've read about the new NH front end light placement being better. But the fact is no matter where they are on the front end the loader/bucket will block them at some point in its range of motion. I've used my lights for some evening work, and I found sometimes they're fine, other times they're blocked. I think if I did a lot of evening work I'd have to mount lights on the ROPS - which I've avoided doing for now.

I don't believe the NH lights are much better... Once the loader is on, they are blocked, too. I think ROPS lights are the way to go, but this has me thinking about some on the loader arms, above the bucket...

Rops lights, what happens when you raise the bucket? Your bucket will block your view or if you raise it high enough to see under it your bucket will block the lights on the rops. With a loader there is no perfect place for lights. Ideally you would have lights on the tractor, loader, fenders and rops. Of course the loader, fender and rops lights would have to be enclosed in a heavy wire mesh for protection. The older tractors use to have lights in the fenders but they were good for lighting up the sides of the tractor but still had flaws. 4 sets of lights is the only way to go. The construction industry has it right as they have lights everywhere on dozers, excavators and other large machines. Maybe the ag bosses don't figure compacts get used much at night to make it worth while to add more lights. The larger ag tractors have special lighting packages that address this problem with cab mounted lights that could light a football field as well as the hood mounted lights.

Dealer called me today and said the 4720 looks like it will only be available as a hydro. If that's true it looks like the 4600 will have to go another couple thousand hours because I'm not buying a hydro. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

At 45.5 PTO Hp the 4520 wouldn't be a slouch....

PTO Horsepower (hydro) 35/40/45/50
PTO Horsepower (reverser) 35.5/40.5/45.5/na

Interestingly there is only .5Hp additional loss with the Hydro vs. the reverser... I know that isn't the only reason for you not going hst, but a 50 Hp 4720 still looks better than a 45.5 Hp 4520 (PTO Hp...) Course pricing may be another issue, there might be a disproportionate charge for the 4720 over the 4520...

What is the engine hp on each though? I would be curious if JD is upping the hp on the hydros to make the buyers think there is no power loss due to the hydro. If that is true then that is not fair to people like cowboydoc and myself who just prefer gear tractors. The main reason I like a geared tractor is I am confident that if something breaks inside it I could fix it with the simple tools I have. If the hydro breaks I would have to go to school to figure out how to fix it.

When the bucket is high enough to block the ROPS mounted lights then the lights on the front of the tractor come into play.

I wonder why Deere would put a hydro only in the 4720 ?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Deere must think that the hydro is the best choice of transmissions ?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The way I interpreted rocky's post was that rops lights would be the standard as the hood lights would no longer be there as the loader blocked them. Either way, the only way to have enough light is to add lights to the loader arms.
