Maybe the builder was worried about the ceiling sagging? My barn trusses are 4ft. on center with a metal ceiling and R40. My carpenter buddy told me not to worry about it. I was worried about sagging so I checked it with a laser before and after the insulation....there wasn稚 any difference.

When I did my barn, I checked the requirements for the metal. It said supported every 4 feet, so I attached it to my trusses which have 4 foot spacing. My brothers barn has 8 foot truss spacing so he added 2x4s. Looking at the pictures, maybe the builder was conservative but maybe it was for appearance. You usually want the ribs running away from you when you enter the building. Any joints will then essentially disappear. If it runs crossways, the joints will be very obvious.

The shop is going to completely finished, and heated all the time. It will have a hoist so that I can work on stuff evenings and weekends. I have a Jeep that been converted to a 100% off-road wheeler. I have three girls that are all starting to drive. A couple of side by sides, and an atv, as well as my tractor. So I have plenty of stuff to keep going, and work on. I値l spend almost 100% of my weekends out there, welding, cutting, and generally working on stuff. I値l just leave the heat on all the time, as I知 told it痴 really efficient once the concrete gets warmed up. We have temps below zero, although rarely for an extended period.

I only wish this forum had a "Like" button. I am building a shop for almost exactly the same purpose. only difference is my three girls are 7,6, 3-2/2

Your youngest is a math problem? Hmmm 3-2/2 = 2

The 2x4 ceiling "strapping" look to be on 2' centers not 4' gaining some support if this is so. also makes a handy spot to stuff wire on "all the way across" runs from the panel. It's coming together nicely:thumbsup:

I thought they were 4ft but I did not measure. A quick glance at the screws would tell.

I wonder which is stronger, 2x4 flat every 2ft, or 2x6 on edge every 4ft?
