First, thanks for all the great info in these forums. I am about to jump into the world of tractors and have benefited greatly from the wisdom of the group.

I've decided on the 4110. I have found a dealer (not the closest to me) who I am beginning to feel good about. Just want to get thoughts on two offers available to me from this dealer.

New package: 4110 (HST), 410 FEL = $15,600.
Used package: 4110 (HST) with 58 hours on it, prior owner traded up to 4310, spoke with prior owner (dealer put me in contact with him) and he just wanted a smoother ride and a bigger bucket; comes with the 410 FEL = $12,900.
Both have the Ind R4 tires. In fact, I can't find any difference at all in how they are equipped. Interestingly enough, the tach on the New machine doesn't work. Dealer would, of course, remedy that prior to delivery.

I've driven both, operated the FEL, visually inspected the machines. I can't find anything that gives me concern on the Used package, except
1) the lever to raise/lower the 3ph is not as smooth as on the new (dealer says that can be fixed with a little lube), and
2) the dust covers around the front tie rod ends are torn up (dealer would replace those prior to delivery).

By the way, the Used package is under warranty until July 2006.

I'd love advice on what other precautions to take when buying used; and thoughts on the pricing for each package. I hope to go back to the dealer tomorrow to finalize a deal.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I'm looking at purchasing a 4110 as well- if it were me and financing wasn't an issue I'd get the used one. 58 hours isn't even broken in and with a warranty I wouldn't worry much.

I'd go with the used on, very little hours.

For reference, I paid $12,300 for a 4010 with 410 FEL in October (deducting $1,000 for the LX4 from total of $13,300). Dealer said the 4110 would be $2,000 more.

I am leaning toward the used. Thanks for the encouragement.

One other thing to consider. I am looking for a post hole digger. Use will be for fence posts, maybe some small shrub planting. I'm thinking 12" would be good all-purpose diameter. Easier to backfill a hole that is too big, than to have to dig extra.

Anyway, the dealer is offering a Rotomec PHD 100 with a 9" auger for $999. That seems expensive to me. Is this a fair price?

Thanks in advance.

I use a Greenline mfg or Green mfg they are the same and use the model EM5000 on a JD4100 (identical to the 4110)
12" auger is no problem, very well made and most importantly it fits !! Its was $300 less than what you were quoted

I think I would go for the used one, especially if the 50 hour service was included, which it should be since it has 50 hourse on it.

I concur with the posts leaning toward the used machine. Especially if the dealer has done or completes the (50) hour service. Regarding the PHD, That does sound a little steep I'd shop a little more.

Thanks to all who responded. I appreciate the thoughts.

Here's what I ended up doing:
Despite the good price on the used 4110, I succumbed to the next bigger syndrome. I knew I wanted to stay with the small chassis, but I never want to say "I wish I had more power" (in the small chassis line). So, Saturday morning I went to my dealer and walked out the proud owner of a new 4115, with 410 FEL and 46 backhoe. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Of course, now I have to wait 2 - 3 weeks since they didn't have any on the lot. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

But, I can't wait for the fun to begin.

Only real downside is that my dealer was not interested in paying much for my X595 in trade. So, now I'm looking for a buyer myself. Check the classifieds if you're interested.

Thanks again for the wisdom of the group.

Congratulations,
I really like the 4115, but I just couldn't justify it on my small bit of land, but I made room for the 46 backhoe which I have used a lot and found it a terrific attachment. I'm sure you'll love it as I do.

Good tractoring,
Cliff
