Hello. When I purchased this 4110, I noticed the Tach/Speedo was not moving. Through research, I learned there is a feed wire from the alternator that feeds the Tach/Speedo. The alternator that was on the tractor did not have a hook up for the Tach and was only charging the battery. I bought a new alternator with a Tach feed wire and placed on the tractor. It was so exciting to see the Tach work for about 2 minutes, then a click and the Tach gauge went to zero. I checked the alternator and the belt was slipping on the alternator pulley because the alternator was not turning!

Has anyone got any input on what I need to do to fix this problem? When I took the alternator off, it would turn but there was a new clicking noise.

Thank you.

Mechanically, I'd say the only thing that keeps an alternator from spinning is something came loose inside and bound it up. If returnable, I would take that route. If not, carefully explore it and see if anything is loose inside. They are relatively simple devices so you can hopefully fine what is ticking. Also, videos are extremely helpful for noises and repetitious ticking. If you can take a short one, that'll save you a lot of trying to explain it.

"bought a new alternator"......
Clarify that. A NEW alternator or a rebuilt alternator ? I have a rebuilt in 1 of my cars now lasting more than 100k miles but that is not the norm. I have had rebuilds sold in auto part stores quit after a week, 2 weeks, whatever and yes even got one making "banging" sounds because the crack-addict who rebuilt it did not put in new bearings. They all do the absolute minimum to turn it around and sell it unless its a private shop who stands behind his work. So unless you can find a reliable re-builder, take it back and tell him shove his alternator where the sun don't shine.

LOL Don't sugar coat R134a ... tell us how you really feel. All kidding aside, very true what R134a says, but taking it a step further, China built "new" can suffer the same problems, if not more. Like others have said, return it & get a working replacement. If there wasn't any warranty or you are out of it, find a good rebuilder near you & maybe they can replace what broke. I think the days of replacing all internals are over, & even if they do, there's no guarantee that the new parts are as good as the "old" stuff.

My frustration comes from when I had a Nissan Sentra. Went through 3 alternators in less than 10 days. Guy wanted to exchange it for a 4th one. I flung it across the counter and said NO with some other colorful language. The Sentra was an easy car to work on but imagine the labor involved on some other cars. A Mazda CX-5 and a Nissan Maxima has you dismounting the A/C compressor before you can remove the alternator. Imagine getting one bum rebuild after another and going through all that multiple times. Luckily a tractor is an easy install.
