4310 or 4410 Help me decide!!

Well, first off I do not want to sound like a rich snob because I'm far from it (just ask my wife /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif). I'm only 30 years old and plan on having my dream (my house with my family and my BABY GREEN) last a long time. Like I said, I will be changing my truck payment for a tractor payment.
4310 MFWD eHydro R4's (all of the electronic add-ons), 430 FEL, 48 BH with 18" bucket, MX-5, Frontier 1060 BB and iMatch. I also will get a 3PH wood chiper. After a couple of years I will get a finish mower and a tiller.
The good news is Mr. Texas just called and told me the land is mine /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif He wants to wait untill January to give him self a tax break. I have not told the wife that part yet /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Since you saved those $ by getting the 4310, you might consider getting a 4n1 bucket on your 430 FEL. I am so glad I got one. The ability to grab stuff with the FEL is tremendously useful, especially if clearing brush. I added a toothbar to mine, and with it I can dig out small saplings, grab them with the 4n1 bucket and away they go onto the brush pile.

You cannot make a tractor too efficient.
I have 800 hours seat time on mine in 3 years and I work full time away from the homestead. I have never taken the loader off. The 4 in 1 is the most useful implement for me.

Studied the 47 vs 48 BH. Finally decided on the 48 BH. Glad I did. The extra reach comes in handy. Basically it means that you don't have to move the tractor as much when working to get around stumps or when digging trenches, etc.
In addition to a foot more reach, the digging force of the 48 is about 25% stronger than the 47 at a cost increase of around 15%.
So in this case, you are getting what you pay for.

The 4 in 1 looks and most likely is very impressive, but I am at the limit of my budget and will have to pass on it for now. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
If you do not mind me asking, where did you get yours from? Correct me if I am wrong, but don't you have to add some valves to the tractor? I'm asking because my wife wants to "play" as well (therefore I want to use the KISS principal{Keep It Simple Stupid} last part is no problem /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif)!

That's what I thought. The price difference from the dealer was less than a grand. I was also taking into account the bigger one might be better for an inexperienced operator. In other words more digging force / longer reach might help correct for my lack of experience.

My John Deere dealer provided me with the 4 in 1 and yes you have to add more valves.
I think the 4 in 1 was about $1500 extra not including the SCV's.

The best part of my 4310 is the 4 in 1 bucket. Made tree cleanup an absolute breeze. You can't imagine how much work you can get done with it.

I think they're fantastic. As to comparison, I fell that well over 90% of my use will be 8 feet deep, or less. I can't see needing the 48 for me. There are plenty of folks who will argue that they aren't worth the price. Well, I couldn't get the tractor without the hoe, (or face you know who...)
I imagine digging stumps would go faster. But I am very pleased.

One the backhoe issue, I went with the 47. My reasons were based on how much I would actually use the hoe, and what the uses were. Honestly couldn't think of anything I would need to dig 8 ft. down for. Understood that the smaller hoe meant moving the tractor more. Neither one is cheap, but $1000 is $1000. I was already spending $29k, and I couldn't justify another grand for my use.
If the money didn't matter, I would have gone with the 48. For convenience sake (moving the tractor), and just because it's BIGGER. Looking at it now, I still couldn't justify the extra money for the 48, but have certainly made use of the 47. It's a very capable hoe. It was hard not to buy the biggest and best tool available; I usually do that. To my amazement, I have probably spent 1/4 of my seat time using the hoe. Other than cleaning up after the dogs, I haven't picked up a shovel since I bought it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Your decision should boil down to your needs. If you plan on using the hoe quite a bit, going larger would probably be good. If you can live with the 47, go buy some more attachments.

Absolutely agree with you,
I have been timbering on my farm and I have taken several thousand board feet of log out of the woods and all with my John Deere 4 in 1 loader. I put 8' ft logs up to 20' logs in length and from 10" diameter to 23" inches diameter and put them on a 16' trailer,the ones which I cannot lift completely off of the ground with my grapple (4 in 1) I can lift one end up and put it on the trailer and slide it on the trailer.It will make a believer outta of you.Doing this with JD 4400
I have been averaging about 750 board ft a trailer load.

If the budget is limited, I'd suggest a 4N1 bucket on the 430 FEL, and go with the 47BH. That, in my opinion, would be more versatile than a standard bucket and 48BH. Of course both are best if you can afford them. The 4N1 feature of the bucket I use at least 25% of the time I use the bucket, whereas the additional reach/power of the 48BH is maybe a 5% to 10% plus factor in most tasks. (see attached picture of typical use).
The 4N1 needs an additional valve, which is cheaper to install when the tractor is being prep-ed by the dealer. But it is very easy to operate since it's just one more lever.

The 47 BH works great. I got mine with a used JD 4300 (only 120 hrs used that is) so I had no choice. The 47 can use the small 9" bucket that is great for trenching 4" pipe. I have also used it to pick up and position barnstone/sandstone for a retaining wall. I have dug large hole, trenches, pulled plants/trees/carried tons of items/held the old brush hog up to spray paint...and even used the bucket to wave to my children watching from the window ( that was the MOST important use!). I also used it to help tear down part of an old barn. It digs to over 7 feet. The 48 may be bigger but on a 4300/4310 the 47BH does great...and can even lift you up in the air. Happy with it...yep.

Yes, it's a Curtis canopy. Keeps the sun and rain of me and the tractor, and only about $400.
Back on the 4N1 bucket.. If you get a FEL with a standard bucket, and then you upgrade later, you'll probably never use that original bucket again. So I justified in my own mind getting the 4N1 at the start because I'd save money not buying the standard bucket. Some rationalization, huh!

I recently bought a 4210 used and I am really dissapointed, I have alot of hot air that is blown from the engine toward the open sation around your feet and also I find the transmission develops alot of heat when you use the loader and 4wd> It is like sitting on a oven.
