4320 vs 3720????

I own a 3320 open station for my IL 6 acres. I do not think I would like to clear 15 acres with it. Go with the 4320! Bigger implements available at a not much more cost than 3X20 implements. I do love my 3320 but a 4X20 with a cab would be a dream machine for you I bet. You have a lot of work ahead and the 4X20 is the line to go with!!

I'm shopping for my first tractor. I have 15 acres and plan to clear adn keep up all 15 one day. I got a 1000' driveway also. I have been looking at the 4320 but after my dealer telling me some that thier 4000 series can't stay out of the shop I'm concerned and wanting to know some more information on the 3720. How does it handle a 6' brush hog, How does it compare to the kubota L3940? What kind of price am i looking at for a 3720, 300CX, and a cab?

What kind of issues are they having with the 4000 series? Is that 4x20 or the whole 4000 series of old?

My dealer (I should say this is a friend of the family and not just a random dealer) told me that if i was buying a JD to stay above the 60 Hp range. especially with the new JD powertech engines in the 4x20 series. He said since i was looking for 40 hp to go with the 990 if i was to go green.

Can he quantify that? We have heard of very few problems on here.

Is that 60HP PTO or engine?

I have had a 4720 for coming on 3 yrs. I love it. I have had a couple issues:

The fuel filler lid is a piss poor design - the pins like to fall out.
Front end loader tab broke off - bad Chinese casting.

Pins? MIne just screws off, kind of like the operator some times.

Think i saw a pic of that somewhere. Probably made out of a junked Tata.

The newer 4X20 series have been good in terms of reliability. Some of the early 4000 series had issues when JD was just beginning to produce their own tractor. JD does seem to love their power tech engines but the yanmars have had an extremely good reputation- and much quieter
My loaded 3720 with cab, 300cx loader, 3 rear hydraulics, cruise, air seat, toolbox, front loader hydraulics, side mirrors, vertical exhaust, R4 wheels, mid pto, horn, radio, skid steer attachment, block heater and rear worklights was just over 31K.

I've had my 4520 for over a year now and am quite pleased with it. I use it to tend our 22 acre place: hay mowing/raking/baling, brush hogging, woods clearing, that sorta thing. Certainly no reliability issues yet (only have a couple hundred hours on it though).

Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions on my experiences the 4x20 series. I'm afraid I've never used a 3x20 before, but I'm sure it's a good machine as well.

Have access to a haybine and round and square baler, but trying to figure out if they will work behind a 4720. Things like having 1 hydraulic handle vs 2, what hoses go where. Cannot remember how large they are but were pulled with a Case cx70 (yes i know a lot bigger but about the same horsepower). I think the hay bine is about 10 ft wide and the baler does about an 800# bale (smallish). I suppose one of the concerns is the weight (?) pushing the tractor around, esp if land is not real level. Have baled some but not with the 4720.

The fuel tank lid screws off.

I am talking about the lid pivot pins vibrate out.

My 4520 seems to work fine with my neighbor's Case (don't know the model) small in-line square baler. I can't really speak to running a round-baler with it, I just don't have experience with those. My guess is that it would be a stretch, but I don't know.

I have the 3720 so I'm more partial to it. Aside from the fact that the 4000 series was a bit bigger than I needed, I stayed away from it for a couple of key reasons. 1) The Powertech engine is made in Mexico. I know that's closer than Japan, but Yanmar has proven itself. 2) Stanadyne makes the fuel system. I know Stanadyne all too well, and feel that their engineering and QC are lacking. I dislike the way these engines start and rev immediately at high fuel. I start my tractor with a quick puff and it purrs.

The Powertech has been pretty good as a wwhole, but we've seen some injector issue (imagine that) and programming updates from what I've seen. I think you'd have to search pretty hard to find a 3000-20 with Yanmar engine or fuel system issues.

How large a tractor you need depends on the intended use. I looked at a cab model, but really disliked the controls. I really only have one issue with my 3720 (aside from the POS fuel door that plages the 4000's also) is that I get air in my hydraulics when the hydro is worked hard. This is reported to be a known issue with some early production units, with no known cause or fix.
