455 won't start...but it cranks

My 455 did something similar, long story short it ended up being a loose ground on the fuel shutoff solenoid. Remove the left side panel and you will see it. My problem started as a coughing/sputtering problem, turned into a "won't start" problem before I found it.

The fuel solenoid pull-in coil is high current. Could be up to 5 amps. If you have a poor connection someplace along the current path, then the pull-in may not operate and thus, no start.

I agree with other posters. Corroded connectors, poor crimp or just a poor ground can become a problem.

I have the problem in the morning .you crank it and crank it maybe half hour then it starts. then it works good all day. I usally trouble shoot it myself this time had jd mechanic look at . he thinks its a sensor hopefully it is

I believe OP found a bad fuel shut-off but you said something that might interest owners. A mechanic should have knowledge of testing proceedures and know what's wrong. Dealer that throw parts at it until fixed is a hack,not a mechanic. Owners can buy and install parts themselves much cheaper than paying $80-$100 per hour plus mark-up on parts. As you said "hopefully"he's right the first time.

once I get it going it stays working . ive been using it 12 hrs a day snow removal . 10 days now .it works the very best when it starts . reading up on the manual now
