47'' snowblower split locking collar

On my 2305 the drive shaft vibrated so bad everything would loosen up especially the sprocket. I tried locktite and that didn't work so i switched all the fasteners to longer grade 8 hex bolts and double-nutted them. This seemed to work the best but I still would check the sprocket every time I would run the blower.

I heard that Deere redesigned the drive-shaft this year to reduce the vibration but I haven't seen the new design yet.

I got so sick of the vibration that I sold the 2305 and bought an X749 -- very smooth and quiet!!!!!

I had the same problem last winter, part of the vibration was cause by the universal joint not being aligned with each other. Fixed that problem and most of the noise went away. And for the drive-shaft, your right, jd came out with a retrofit. The long shaft underneath the tractor has been replace by a fix shaft with double u-joint in the front. They are replacing mine on the warranty, should arrive this week. As for the sprocket, they were all tight. Can say the same for the locking collar.

Damaged sprocket on a snowblower is not unusual as the sprocket itself is designed as a backup system when shear pins fail to snap (it happens). I shatter two sprockets every winter on average, that's why I always carry spares. They're relatively cheap ($10-$15 each at machine shops) and quite easy to replace depending on temperature, as it can be tricky to pull off with frozen hands. Most blower manufacturers use standardized sprockets so they're easy to get a hold of.

This is news to me. Do anybody with a 47'' jd snowblower had this problem before with this particular blower? If this is the case I will follow Karl idea and buy a spare sprocket.

I have never damaged a sprocket on a Deere Blower. Check the price before ordering, the large sprocket is not an "off the shelf" item so you will pay Deerely.

Turbo36, never heard of a sprocket problem for this particular blower and yes I am sure they are not giving those away. Unless I here otherwise I will not bother with spare one. Murphy's law. Surprisingly, no snow yet, but if you build it, it will come.

just remember you bought a Deere because there WILL be parts when if and when it breaks

my snow gear is ready but my baby is up on the ski hill digging up snow making electrical lines before it snows - go figure

Well, I'm back from the dealer with good news and bad news. The good news is, the broken collar was not cause by a flaws in the design of the blower, ''which I am not surprise since these blowers have been around for a while''. The bad news is ''not that you would really care'' I'm back home without my snowblower. The culprit for the broken collar is a bend shaft, the one for the small sprocket. Had to be a defect from the mf cause it is almost impossible to bend it without doing serious damage to the blower. So now I have to wait for the shaft to arrive next week. Hopefully, the retrofit for the pto drive-shaft will have arrived also. It is due for next Friday. I will put pictures as soon as I receive it. Also a quick explanation on how to install the locking collar for peoples like myself that never had to deal with those before as it was explained to me. The collar actually twist ''screw'' on the bearing. If it is loose, you have to twist it as tight as possible on the end of the bearing, and then using locktite,tight the set screw to lock it in place. Simple, but like I said, I never had to deal with one before. If I missed anything, please, fill in the blanks.

More good news... Sounds like a warrenty issue.
