I thought all tractors over 40PTO hp (currently) had to be tested in order to be sold in Nebraska? Anyway - if the 40hp limit is still in effect and hasn't been raised - won't Deere have to submit at least the 4520 and 4720?

Compacts and sub-compacts are exempt from the tests. The reason it isn't done separately is because the tests are subsidized by the state of Nebraska.

Doc, New Holland has the TC 55 which meets your needs /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I know how much all your green tractors need a blue friend. Is the TC 55 the same size, height, and width as the 4720? If it is I will give it a look for sure.

The TC55 is the old Ford 2120. I have not seen the 4720 up close yet but the TC55 is a nice tractor and maintains the good turn ratio of the compacts.

From the limited specs JD has the TC 55 has 3 more inches in wheel base (JD don't list many specs on the 4720 dimensions). The TC 55 is 55 hp and 47 pto with the SSS tranny compared to the 4720's 58 hp/ 50 pto. So the hp is very close and it is a gear tractor. The TC 55 is 500 pounds heavier then the 4720. And if your other tractors do get offended you can always paint it green and yellow but don't ever show any pictures of it online /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Another possiblity is the 5520N from JD. I don't know the numbers on them but they are compacted utility tractors for use in grape and orchard farms. There are quite a few of them around but the TNF's are more popular because of the supersteer front axel which is nice in tight grape vineyards. Then you can get up to 80pto hp with the TN 95F (10.8 foot turn radius without using brakes). The JD 5520N has a 11.8 foot turn radius without using brakes and puts out 75pto hp. Both machines are with MFWD and cost a lot more then a compact.

I've been getting some heat over my 20% statement on hydros. Now this test that we did this morning may or may not mean anything. I have a buddy with a 4710 hydro. He loves it and wouldn't dream of getting a gear. He came over this am to get my post pounder. I said do me a favor and let's hook drawbar to drawbar and see who can outpull who. We hooked a chain between the two and both went into A range. I was in 1st gear. I easily pulled his tractor backwards. It was the same in 2nd gear. Third gear was pretty dead even and 4th gear he was pulling me back a little.

I'm not an engineer and don't know how much stock can be put into this if any.

Both same tire types? Were his tires spinning or was his relief valve tripped? Lot of variables there. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually he had R1's and I had R4's. Tires were slipping on both tractors at one time or another. We were going to do B & C range but figured we better quit before we broke something.

I agree about the sled and lots of variables. Like I said I dont' think it proves anything it was just one of those spur of the moment things that was kinda fun. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
