Seems like yet another business oportunity opening up thanks to govt. safety police. Like booze and drug running.
'Pssstt... you lookin' for some good sheet?'

How about a refilling service?

Now i feel like puking: When it's OK for NATO and the rest of the UN that we support, but we can't have them....

I knew I shouldn't have read that.

How do you feel about it, Corky and Ninefingers? Your tax money going to buy gas cans that work, for Bulgarians, or whoever's in NATO now... Maybe yous bought a couple for the Russians... Me too..

My best shirt says 'Get US Out of the UN' on it.

I'm wondering if this Auto Shut-Off Spout would do the job???
It's on my Christmas list. Although it sounds great, as I re-read the description I'm unclear as to whether it requires two hand to start the flow. If Santa comes through for me I'll be sure to update this thread.

I would love to get my hands on a couple of these. The splash and gurgle is way better than the hold the dumb thingy combined with the splash and gurgle can that we have here in Pa now.

That is the one thing I'm afraid of is the HF unit taking 15 minutes to empty a 5 gal can and being a piece of junk. You guys that can get these cans with the spout that Dirt posted better snag a few while you can. I miss my old metal ones.

Those are available in florida as well.

Without injecting politics, I'll just point out that the military requirements for fuel cans are vastly different than the civilian requirements. Among other things, the military needs to be able to fuel their equipment fast, which can't be done with EPA or CARB type cans. Lives depend on it. They also need to be able to handle scrounged fuel and to fuel commandeered foreign equipment and vehicles. The military fuel cans are designed and approved for those purposes. For interoperability reasons, our allies have similar or the same designs.

The UN has nothing to do with it.

Yes! Thanks Chris. My mom lives in God's waiting room state. I know what I'm asking for Christmas.

Umm, let's keep politics out of a gas can thread. ;)

I haven't looked in the store lately. So they no longer sell those fuel can nozzles they used to sell for gas cans?

I'll jump out on a limb here. Suppose you drill a hole in the bottom of the front of an unused, clean gas can and attach a fuel line hose and shut off valve? Set the gas can on a milk crate or something to elevate it above whatever you are filling. Put the hose in the tank and open the valve?

Different construction would be to add a brass hose barb from a plumbing supply place to the bottom side of the can, attach the fuel line hose and then put a shut off valve at the end of the hose. Make the hose long enough to store on the handle of the gas can.

The difficult part is figuring out how to reach down in the gas can to hold the nut and washer that will be used on the inside to make the connection leak tight. Maybe tape the washer and nut to a long handled 3/8 breaker bar and then twist the barb connection tight from the outside of the can?

Thanks for speaking up. How could anybody improve a gas can and make it worse?
