Roger...its cooling right off here too.
Biggest thing, make sure that inner is pushed all the way in.
Gonna get out tomorrow and take the backhoe off, and put the rear blade on....

Inside honeydoos for me today, kitchen faucet, blinds for the front window etc..

Might try some of Erics non tractor tips as well lol

Hey Pilgrim, I have no better luck with a chain over any other strap wrench either. I don't have a PHD in filter removal but to me it's all in the technique.... go slow... build pressure and hold to allow time for the rubber seal to give.
If that don't work I go into a rage and start cursin' and throwing stuff... then jab something through it and beat it off with whatever is laying around on the bench. :) ..... then go bandage up my knuckles and have a few stiff drinks.
Hey that's my method!!! Especially the last three steps. :drink:

I used this wrench Chain Wrench - 20". It was cheep and I could put an extension on it and use my breaker bar. I put it on the bottom of the filter and it crushed it a little but it didn't leak oil all over.

To catch the oil I used a plastic concrete mixing tub. I got mine at a garage sale ($5) but Lowes/HD has them. It allows you to have multiple drains open at once and catch all the oil. My Hyd fluid was pretty clean and not too much gunk on the magnetic plug.

That is what I used on my BIL's Kubota to get the hydraulic filter off. It worked well. On my Kioti, I did not have it, and I wound up using a piece of 5/8 all thread thru the filter after drilling a hole.

The big strap wrench worked fine for me too, but on a DK45 gear tractor that had that filter changed previously. The main trick was to get all the dirt and dust off the outside of the filter so the rubber strap could get a good grip. Otherwise it just slipped.

Piece of sandpaper lodged between filter and strap seems to help quite often. Otherwise get yourselves one of these and laugh at your next stubborn filter: Channellock 215 filter plier https://www.channellock.com/data/default/images/catalog/original/215-366.png

I did the 50 hr service three weeks ago and decided to change the hydro fluid. The drain plug had a significant number of metal filings on it, around 75% covered and a 1/4 inch high. I should have taken a picture for you all but I was focused on not making a mistake. I used a chain wrench to defeat the gorilla. Thanks all for that tip. After completing the full service I started cleaning up and found the drain plug washer in the dirt. It was at the end of a long day and I decided not to try and put it in as there was no leaking. Since then I check prior to use and there still has been no leaking from the plug. If I find a leak, I will plug the filler cap and try a quick change. If no leak, then I will wait till the next service and add the washer back in.

I think one of the main purposes of the washer is to aid in snugging down the bolt without stripping the threads. The washer should deform a little as you near the proper torque. You probably won't have leaks to worry about, and even if it did leak, it would have to be very very minor coming through the fine plug threads. So don't worry about it. If you want to over-analyze it, you can think about how proper your tightening torque was!
