I'm rapidly approaching the 50 hr mark on my new L3010 and am thinking about what's involved in the scheduled maintenance, as itemized in the owners manual.

Is there any reason not to undertake the project other than the obvious (ie. dealing with the large amount of hydro fluid to change)? It sure would be easy to just pick up the phone and call the dealer and say "do it!" but they want so much $$!

You are right - dealing with all the hydro oil is the hardest part. I was wondering what I was going to do with it, but it happens that our town recyling center has a waste oil fired boiler and they were more than happy to take it all.

Jon,

It's not too bad, but you will need 2 five gallon buckets to hold the fluids. Also, a method of transporting the fluid to the recycling center with out slopping it all over.

If you pick up the front end with the loader, the standard size bucket will fit. The nice thing with all of the drain points, you won't over flow the bucket if you start at the high points first. Last thing is to pull the filters off. Check and double check the manual to make sure you are getting all of the drain points. Speaking of filters, mine were spun on by King Kong's stronger brother and a pain in the putoot to back off. I wound up putting sandpaper under the filter wrench to gain the traction to spin it off. Darn smooth sided rasckle.

Plan on the front axle draining taking the most time. They seem to drip drip drip for ever! I used amsoil fluids for both the hydro and the front axle. We get down to the -30's (F), so cold weather performance is a key parameter.

When re-filling the hydrofluid, you will be aided by either a transfer pump or a large funnel to get the fluid back into the tractor and not on the ground. Other than that, it's just like any other oil change, just more of it coming out of different places.

If you think the service at the dealer is expensive just wait until you find out what the parts are going to cost. Those two big filters and Super UDT are a killer. I think it cost me something like $286 to buy the fluids and filters at the dealer.

Other than that it is a pretty easy job. The thing that surprised me was how FEW places there are to grease. I expected a lot more.

Jon,

It's not really all that involved. Took me about 2 hours total on my first time. Total cost for me was 166.00, and that included the fuel filter (5.00) that really didn't need to be changed until the 400hr mark according to the manual. Also I did not use Kubota fluids as my dealer does not sell them. He sells Massey Ferguson Permatran III @ 32.00 for 5 gal bucket. So thats what I used in the tranny as well as the front axle. I bought 2-5gal buckets and 1-2.5gal. You need aprox. 10.3 gals for the tranny and 5qts. for the front axle. This left me aprox. 1-2gals for topping off later. Good Luck!

My dealer quoted me 3 hours plus materials. He indicated it will cost between $350-$400.
I figured one very through physical exam for now, rigorous maintence schedule, then another one about every 500 hours (what ever the schedule calls for-I forgot but I did keep the book!)
In between I will do the rest.
In my opinion the most important service should be the initial break-in. This is simply due to fresh machine parts being worked for the first time.
Maybe I am wasting money but I will let them do the first one.
I have about 35 hours on mine so it will be soon!

I have a B2910...

Different animal I know, but both are Kubotas...took me a couple hours max, probably less to do what the 50 hour service is the manual calls for. Basically it is simply changing three filters [one engine and two hyd] and changing engine oil and transmission oil.

Not sure what yours entails, but I wonder about the 3 hours quoted as these guys do it all the time and probably would be a lot faster than you and me the first time.

On my tractor the 50 hour service is not really different than those that follow later.

Could your dealer be doing more than the manual calls for I wonder? Or is he just taking advantag the of the opportunity to put a few extra dollars in his pocket?

For what it's worth....Bill in Pgh, PA.

I know this is an old thread but I would appreciate some input. I also just had a 50 hour service on my L3010HST done today. The deal was that I would pay for the parts and the dealer would spring for the transportation of the tractor and labor. Anyway the parts breakdown is as follows:

Oil Filter $15.30
Fuel Filter $ 3.95
Hyd Filter $21.17
HST Filter $44.75
Super UDT 5 Gal $69.50

Is this really cheap and should I stock up now or are these prices average? By the way these are all Kubota items with the total cost for the entire job $233.25. Well guys I hate to pay to much, but on the same token I hate not knowing when I am getting a bargin. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Jump on that deal, especially if the dealer will let you get a "once over" with the mechanic doing the work. Not only do you not have to worry about missing something, but you get to tap the knowledge of someone who does this sort of thing for a living.

When my L3010 turned 400 hours I added a sub-frame backhoe and had the dealer throw in the 400 hour service with me shadowing the tech. I thought after 400 hours I knew that tractor inside and out, but the tech showed me a trick or two. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
