I'm approaching my first 50 hour service interval on my TC30 and was wondering if there was anything I should be aware of. I am planning on changing the engine oil & filter, HST filter, Hydraulic Filter, & Fuel Filter. Also planning on lubing all of the grease zerks.

Here are a couple of specific questions:

1) Fluids (engine oil, Hydraulic fluid, & grease). Do I need to go with New Holland Brands, or can I get more readily-available fluids elsewhere and perhaps save some $?

2) Filters. Same questions as in #1.

Any other toughts/comments an this topic are welcomed as well. Thanks.

Jeff, I'd stick with the NH brand on filters. The engine oil filter will probably be $7 or less and the fuel and hydraulic filters will probably only be available from NH unless you spend a lot of time trying to match after-market parts. Besides, with the recommended hydraulic oil change at 300 hr, you don't buy that filter too often. As far as fluids go, I use Shell Rotella in my engine and have used other grease, but I'd stay with NH 134A for the hydraulic reservoir unless you are going to change to a synthetic. Even with a synthetic, I'd talk to my dealer first. I'm sure there are hydraulic fluids that are less expensive and maybe even better than the NH brand, but I'd save my experimentation until the warranty period is over. I also use NH grease just because it's not that expensive and I can pick it up anytime I'm at my dealer. It's easy to see you are using NH grease because it is blue like your tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Even though the filters and fluids are expensive, I think your guarantee that you get the correct parts are worth the extra dollars. I'd only consider using other brands for engine oil and grease. Also, if you ever change your anti-freeze, you can use any major brand of permanent winter-summer antifreeze as is recommended in your owners manual.

Jeff:

One other comment regarding the filters. Not sure if it will be the same with your TC30, but if you do go with the NH filters. Do not be alarmed or surprised if the filter looks different or appears to be a different size. I know when I picked them up for my TC45D, I took them back because the oil filter in particular was much smaller in size than what had come from the factory.

Have you checked the prices of filters and fluids at your NH dealer?

Speaking of 50 hour service. I had mine done by my dealer and as far as I can tell he changed all the filters or at least he billed me for them.

My concern is the Hydrostatic filter is the same New Holland Grey and has a marking on it that says, change this filter only on the first 50 hours and then every 300 hours thereafter. Does the replacement one say that also? I am hoping my dealer changed it on the 50 hour if not then I have 145 hours on it.

Spencer this might be one for you.

Hi there,

I did my own 50 hour service and the Hydro filter I got from the Dealer had the "change after 50 and 300" writing on it like my original filter.
Did he really change it? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Don't know but the replacements look the same /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Awww that makes me feel more comfortable. He did charege me for it. I just wasn't sure if they would have the same writings on it but if they do then I feel much better.

Ouch!

Sent the wife to pick up the four filters (oil, HST, hydraulic, & fuel) today. The oil and fuel filters were free, but I had to pay for the HST & hydraulic filters.

I was charged $21.31 for one filter and $30.15 for the other (don't know which is which yet). Also don't know what they would have charged me for the oil & fuel filters -- any ideas?

Was told by the parts guy that I didn't need to replace the HST & hydraulic filters at the 50 hour mark -- they go for 300 hours. My manual says otherwise. I'm changing them.

Picked up a block heater while she was at it, $20.46. I assume they are pretty easy to install . . . correct?
