strez, I bought filters in April and paid

OIL FILTER 86546618 6.36
HYDRO FILTER SBA340500890 19.37
HYDRAULIC OIL SBA340500930 27.41

I've never installed a block heater, my dealer did this. All you need is a pan to hold the antifreeze you'll need to drain and a way to pull the freeze plug. Push the heater in and tighten the little bolt/screw in the center of the heater. Replace the antifreeze and you're done.

Re: oh yeh

I looked at filter1 and, in this example, I would have saved about $7.00. However, filter1 did not have all the filters I needed, so I still would have had to go to the NH dealer for the other ones. For the number of filters I need per year, it's more convenient to go to the dealer when they're having a sale, usually 10% off the aforementioned prices, and buy a couple of sets. There are NH dealers on TBN that will even offer free shipping so I don't need to go anywhere. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif However, if you plan on putting a lot of hours on a tractor/year, or have a lot of tractors, the savings from places like filter1 can add up.

I did my own 50 hour maintenance and the filters that I purchased from the dealer all looked exactly like the ones I took off including the change at the 50 hour/300 hour interval markings. I don't remember exact pricings, but the total was $114 but that also included $50 for welding 3 hooks on the FEL.

don't know about the rest of you folks with TC-30, but on mine the oil filter is a real sob to get off. the mount bracket and joystick box for the fel cover just about every angel except straight in, and i could nowhere find a cap wrench that fit the filter.

first time, the service guy from the dealership came out and got the filter off. second time i managed to come in near the hydraulic foot pedal and found about ten degrees i could move a chain wrench through.

at tsc (tractor supply) i have hence found an oil filter wrench that may work. it is a cloth strap that wraps around the filter and is itself wrapped up by a short square steel tube. a half inch socket driver turns the square tube.

other than that, no problems

I have used one of those strap wrenches just like you describe.

A friend used to have a subaru justy DL, and it was a real small 3 cylinder. The oil filter was situated between the sideways engine and the firewall. You had to jack the car up.. roll under with a creeper, and in that 3-4" narrow gap, you had to try to stick your arms up and remove the oil filter.. which was about the size of a 5 oz. paper drinking cup like you see in a dispenser for bathrooms, etc.
Strap wrench came in real handy...

OK, performed the 50 hour service today -- things went off pretty much without a hitch. I was suprised at the amount of hydro fluid which came out when I removed the hyrdro filter -- had to add about 2 qts to bring the level back up to the top . . .

One question I have is regarding the 3 pt hitch -- the owners manual says that the 3 pt hitch should be lubed -- the only thing I can see to lube are the ball & socket points (don't know what they're called, the balls with the holes in them that swivel inside the 3 pt hitch linkages). Anyway, how do you lube them? There isn't a zerk fitting -- do I simply smear grease on them or should I squirt some oil on them?

Thanks!

I wipe grease on them while rotating them several times in their socket. I'm sure oil would work as well but the grease seems to stay on longer.

Lubricating your link's rotating ball sockets is okay, but what about the tilt adjuster on the right side arm? Mine has two zerk fittings. I don't lube my link ends because it just seems to attract dirt and that seems to defeat the purpose. I've never seen one of the link ends fail, although my adjustable ones may need to be lubed and loosened up from time-to-time to make sure the release mechanism operates smoothly.
