S219 makes some very good points here. I think the filter is simply doing its job and a good one at that! Im not in the habit of pulling filters, just to look at them, unless already have a new one to be installed. That is just in case there is a unseen problem when I take it off. I always cut my filters too and squeeze the media in a vise, so I can inspect for particles that may or may not be present.

The very large machines never get oil changed at low (50 hour) interval, one other reason is, the very large amount of oil in components. Some hold over 250 gals!

I did have a filter on hand , just ordered a new set of filters in case it was necessary to change the fluid rather quickly . I now agree the filter was doing a good job , just wasn't sure until reading all of the comments .

Hi All,

On our racecar we cut oil filters all the time to evaluate the engines condition......

With that said you should cut the filter apart and then cut the pleated filter paper at the top & bottom to allow you to open up the filter pleats and inspect the bottom of the pleats for debris.....

It's a cheap way to tell the internal condition....

Cheap filter cutters are available from Summit or Jegs......
