5010 Gear (No Cab) Leaking Power Steering Fluid

A bit off actual topic, but since these units all have the same reoccurring problem, has anyone thought of replacing it with another manufacture (JD, Kubota, Ford), they all work pretty much the same way?

I thought of that when my 2555 leaked and I discovered there was no seal kit available. I didn't do much research. Eaton makes several, but I doubt if anything would be an easy replacement. KYM has the same unit on several models, but their parts people said there is no repair kit. Mahindra and KYM said the new part number now ends in 002. Maybe an improvement has been made by SINJIN. It's a joke there is not a repair seal kit for these. They cost around $900 to $1000 for a new unit. No factory rebuilds either.

$1,099 + shipping from Mahindra with a 90 day warranty from DATE OF PURCHASE, not the day you receive it or the date you installed it! I've had to buy two of these.

Any way, here's a picture of the seals; the one on the left is the "upper" dust seal, it's 22 x 30 x 5 or you can use a 22 x 30 x 6; the one on the right is "inner" oil seal. There is no size markings on it but it's roughly 22 x 28 x 4. I don't remember the technical name for it but this has "double" lips around the outside as well the inside and is one piece.

Thanks for the picture DirtHauler. This helps! Not much to it. The double lip seal ring is called a quad ring or X-ring. At least that is what we called them at the nuclear power plant I worked at. They were used in many hydraulic systems and valves. We had a cabinet full of these, all different sizes and materials. Many were metric. Quad rings really aren't good seals for high pressure. If they were used for high pressure systems, they always had a Teflon seal used with them. It's a bit strange not to have the Teflon seal with this. It's hard to believe a few bucks worth of seals could save this unit instead of spending $1,099 for a new one. I'll do some research, once I get mine apart. I copied this. It the SINJIN website. www.powersteeringunit.com/catalogue/eng_06RPPSU.pdf It doesn't tell me much, other than sizes.

Diagram comes from the 5010 service manual. Same diagram in HST Cab and Gear Cab/Non Cab manuals. Only part number is for PSU/HSU mentioned previously. Diagram does give names of parts and trouble shooting has some guidance that makes you think mahindra would sell orings and seals. See pic 15485969131971012279363306555207.jpg

Dirthauler, manual shows 2 shaft seals and a dust seal ring. Do you agree? Also the Bridgeport AL city mechanic says local oreillys can get seals if theres a number on them. Looks like one of the seals in the picture has some marking . Thanks for posting
