Gods of TBN, I have been wondering if it is even possible to put duals on my '11 5083E? I have the wheels set at the widest stance right now, but even with a 2400 lb counter weight, I have managed to figure out how to pick up the rear end with my 563 loader:thumbsup:. Anyways, what brought this question about was my FIL asked me to disc a couple corn fields that are close to my tractor, they just happen to be 16ft discs. The good news is, the discs have hydraulic wings that I can pick up if they are too much drag. I have ALWAYS run out of traction before I have run out of horsepower. (I'm working on running out of horsepower) SO I was sort of wondering how in the world I would attach them to the utility wheels. (dished offset wheels) My FIL has suggested welding some eyelets on the rims and using turn buckles-which just about turns my stomach welding on brand new rims.

Maybe I'm just crazy for thinking about duals on a utility tractor?

Well... I've seen duals on a JD 3020 before! About the same hp and wt., etc. If you're serious - might end up having to buy a matched set - all 4; rims and tires.

How about Rimguard filled rears? You can also fill the fronts and get some added pull there. (You'll be pulling that disc in 4x4, anyways..)

There are companies that make universal fit dual clamps/brackets, so installing duals is no problem. My 5093 pulls a 15' or so set of disks ok but duals would be really nice in wet spots. I have looked into duals but I worry if the tractor itself can handle them. If you do it post pics and let us know how it works out!

I have a JD 5520 which is mostly the same tractor and the owner's manual specifically advises against duals. I would still attempt it if the duals were for flotation purposes but the demands of hard tillage could snap the axles. Maybe call a big dealer and ask a shop mechanic.
I put heavy ply Firestone radials on mine and the pulling power is dramatically improved. Now I can pull an 8 shank JD #100 chisel plow if I add weight. I have cast rear centers, a total of four rear weights and I can add up to eight 100 lb front end weights. Works for me.

I didn't see anything in the 5E manual about duals, but it is a pretty light duty tractor for its hp range.

Don't know if the tractor is built for it or not, not familiar with JD's newer models, but I'm sure 'clamp on' or 'band' duals would be easy to fix on, they replace the bolts on the rim with eye bolts, and use long hooks to clamp the dual to the exsisting rim. there is a metal tube that sits between the rims for spacing. Clamp it all together with the long hook bolts.

Well, yours may be different. I don't have time to search right now but I believe mine was under the tire section. Maybe enough guys just went ahead and did it so they figured it was OK.

Well I am thinking that I'm gonna run out of horsepower long before I run out of traction except in the wet spots. Im still going to try and pull it with the wings down on the discs. I dont really do any heavy farming to justify a much bigger tractor. I assumed that going with 83 hp was going to be more than enough for anything I was going to get into. The loader is more than enough for what I actually use it for. I actually talked to the dealership today and he advised against the duals. I was thinking it was more of a liability thing. I was thinking it was a interesting idea more than a serious question to add them.

So is there anyway to maybe pick up another 20 hp? I already have the rear tires loaded with the beet juice, supposedly 12lb/gal. IIRC which gives me around 1752lbs in the rears. I dont have the fronts loaded (although I have toyed with the idea) I do have 4 suitcase weights I'm def going to throw on. I pulled out my FIL's combine the other day pretty easily, but I def left 6" deep trenches for about 20'

You could try turning up the fuel pump. Ask your dealer if it would be ok first.
