the wear is (hard to say looking at the listing I posted just before you asked) about 20 inches down the shaft from the bearing housing or carrier as soundguy called it. there is a little wear on the shaft that sticks out too but IMO most are. If one of you guys look at the listing and don't think it would effect anything I'll go ahead and buy this thing. Like I said the housing alone would cost more than the whole shaft in this case.

thanx for all the help guys.

I'm confused. I see a link for a fergy pro bearing carrier, and a link to a ford n pro shaft?

Isn't the op's tractor a fergy 30?

I offered the seller of the ford N pto shaft a bit less than he was asking and he countered with an other lower than listed price so I went ahead and bought it.
Should have it by next Saturday, fingers crossed.
I thought I'd go ahead and buy the whole shaft and carrier and see what happens. The carrier that dbotos listed was still higher in price than the whole shaft so that's the route I went.
I guess I could have just bought the "housing" but this way I might not have to change any seals or bearing. although it might not be a bad idea to do that just to eliminate future problems.

Thanx again guys.

Are you trying to put a ford pto shaft into a fergy?

Are you trying to put a ford pto shaft into a fergy?

That's kind of what I was going to do. Is there a difference ? will a Ford shaft not fit ? I was assuming by all the E bay listings that there were interchangeable.
Originally I was just going to replace the carrier but after finding the whole shaft with carrier I thought I'd just pull the old shaft and replace it with the Ford from Ebay.
I've never changed any before so this is new territory for me.

Thanx
Mike

i know there is a difference in length in the ford and the to-30 pto shafts.

I had a friend that had an 8n, and went to change the pto shaft and it wouldn't fit. come to find out he had the rear end of a fergy on his 8n, and it took a different length shaft. At least this is what he told me.

So I'd sure check that if I were you!

If you are changing out the assembly as a whole, it MAY work. just the shaft by itself.. I think there might be issues.

I'm hoping that I can just change out the whole assembly. Carrier housing shaft and all. The only thing wrong with mine is the chunk missing from the bottom of my "housing" carrier, and the seal leaking. I just thought that instead of pulling mine apart and the unit I just bought from E pay I could just pull my old one out and stick the "new to me" back in with only changing the one gasket. I'm glad you pointed out the length issue though, I did see somewhere and I don't remember which one it was but there were 2 different lengths. One was listed as 30 3/8 in length and the other was 30 7/8 in length. So it might come down to breaking everything down and replacing bushings bearings and all. I'll measure when I get the unit this weekend and let you know what I find.

Thanx for the heads up.

yup, length, and I have seen bearing size differences. the bearing size would just be an issue when rebuilding or swapping parts.

Hopefully the one you ordered will work. I have a feeling a ford may work in a fergy, but a fergy may not work in a ford ( if the fergy is the longer one. )

Anyway. you will soon know.

There are also 1 1/8 and 1 3/8 shafts.. the pto end is bigger and longer ( external of the tractor ).

I'm assuming the one I bought has the 1 3/8 external shaft, it had 6 splines, looked a little wore but not too bad that I could tell from the pic.
I could be wrong but doesn't the 1 1/8 shaft only have 4 splines?, kind of like the shaft end on a PHD.

Would you, or any of the other guys on here know if there is an online site that would have the parts breakdown for the TO30. I've tried AGCO but they don't go back that far in vintage.

Thanx again.
