On the way back from Empire Farm Days, the wife and I swung south a bit to take a look at a well-maintained 57 Dodge D-100 outside of Lebanon NH. We bought it on the spot and drove it home to Stowe, VT. The max speed I felt comfortable with was 50mph. Fortunately, since we took the Interstate, this weekend is the annual antique car show in Stowe, so there were plenty of other old, slow cars on the road. But at one point the Interstate narrowed to a single lane because of contruction, and I found myself at the head of a 16 mile long line of impatient tourists! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Thought about pulling over, but the construction speed limit was 50 anyway, so I did my civic duty by enforcing it! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

But the amazing part of the experience was that the fellow I bought the truck from lived just around the corner from Thomas in NH!!! I could see his house with the little toy Kubota on his mailbox from the guy's yard! Wanted to stop by and introduce myself so badly, but it's very un-New England to drop by unannounced.

So Thomas -- it was great to almost meet you at last!

Pete

Lets see some pictures! I am mostly a Ford man, but I like the old Dodges also. I have a 74 Powerwagon that was my dads. It only has 19k on it, but its all plowing miles, so needs a lot of work.

Boondox:
Shouda stopped in and sold Thomas some coffee. Me think's he might be partial to a good cup or two.

It is funny how much we know about people on here. The first thing I thought of when I saw a post by Boondox about Thomas was coffee. I don't know who mentions coffee more often. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Great picture, Pete!!! The kids look real happy!!!

That pickup sure looks like it's in good shape!!! Karen and I have talked about getting a vintage pickup for years, but there's a lot of other things we have to do first.

Never! They ride in the Subaru, but like to hang out in the truck bed. Must be a dog thing!

I didn't think so, they way you guys care for your canine kids, but I thought I'd confirm. I shudder each time I see people doing that. I know you can buy a leash arrangement that fits in a pickup bed, but I've never seen them used. The dogs are always walking loose in the pickup bed. Why take the risk. I sometimes feel like pointing this out to people. One sudden stop or turn and Fido gets tossed out.

I'm with you, Mike! I knew Pete and Tamara would never do that, but it makes me really mad when I see a dog riding in the bed of a pickup!/w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif One short stop or big bump, and they fall to their death!!

I have eaven seen people let there dogs ride ontop of a bed cover! /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif Some people should be shot.

Pete, Nice ride.

My pooches even wear seatbelts! Keeps them from being ejected in an accident. Also very handy for keeping the wet dog in the backseat on the old towel. Why is it that they always want to ride shotgun?

Over 'ere it is illegal to have your dog unrestrained in the back of a ute.

Many cowboys still leave their dogs unrestrained but I think that is bad.

Mine gets tied up on a lead so it can't get too close to the edge.

Mind you, once it jumped out when I was parked and must have slipped out of his collar. I found him on the footpath of a busy road looking very scared !!

then again I also have a roof for my ute because he burnt his paws on the hot rubber years ago.

One of these days, old friend.

Stay cool? Heck, I jumped in the pond today after work and it was warm as bath water! On the plus side, my two youngest golden retrievers like to ride the inner tube with me. They curl up on the tube with their heads on my shoulders, wagging their tails and giving me kisses.

Found a young fellow with an outstanding reputation for restoration work. Took the Dodge to him and left it there for a stem to stern exam. Don't want it restored 100%, just want the rust stopped before it gets bad. Afterall, the little red truck will be used hauling sheep, straw, and lumber. No sense going overboard on repairs.
