Snow 59" Blower cables

Handy little info here to save ya some $$....

Couple days ago I snapped the chute control cable on my blower. Still not sure what happened. Might have been a rock or ice chunk in between the blower and the chute. Anyhow.... I ordered a new cable, (part #M84556), from Deere. $27.28. Got it today and what a rip off

Original one came off in 3 pieces so couldn't get a real measure on it to make my own replacement.)

All it is is an 1/8" cable with a couple furrals crimped on.

So.... from the parts house to the hardware store I went. Grabbed 20' of cable and 4 furrals for a grand total of ........$5.29. And get this.... with that I made 2 spare replacements to have on hand.

Here are some measures and material to save you folks $25.00 if you happen to need new cable.

1 pc. 1/8" cable x 88"
1 pc. 1/8" cable x 3.5"
2- furrals

Pics show where to crimp the short pc of cable to the main long one.

Once I figured out the routing of the cable over the 3 pullies and adjusted things it works slick as snot!!!

Should have shot some pics of replacing the cable and such but didn't think about it. Can get cable routing pics if you need em.

Good info to have just in case. I've had a 59 blower for 5 yrs and haven't broken a cable yet, but can see how it could happen if the chute got stuck/frozen. I apply Fluid Film in the chute channel where it could freeze and cause problems --- so far so good. Also, 27 bucks for that part doesn't pass the sanity test.

I'm thinking you should go in the business of supplying cables to fit and undersell JD.

What would you sell them for?

You should go into business making JD hydraulic lines, they are way over priced, had to get some for my 380A front blade, the two longest ones, $45 each, TSC, has the same lengh, $15 each, but, TSC is 1/4" fittings on each end and the JD has a 1/4" on one end, and, a 3/8" on the other, they get you with those different sized fittings, which of course TSC doesn't have,

My Deere dealer parts dept. make the hoses in whatever length or fittings you want.
For some at fixed lengths and male NPT ends I usually buy from Surplus Center.

Do you have pictures of how to route the cables around the pulley's? I am having a terrible time getting it put back together. Thanks, Allen Livermore
