Egon... Had it - forgot to put it in!

Matt... thought it was fish when I grabbed it from the home freezer rushing out the door.
Nice surprise when I unloaded the food at the cabin.

Lloyd, I like your stir-fry spatula. When that one wears out, just stop by the paint store and get a handfull more.

When you got to the cabin, did the roof have snow? Is it so clean in the picture because of the heat from inside the cabin or does it just naturally shed snow because of the pitch?

I love your wide shots and the way the sun "paints" the view. I'd bet it was so quiet down by the creek that you could hear the ice popping and creaking.

Jinman, To my surprise the roof was clear and the deck/porch area was clear as well. I know the pitch had a lot to do with keeping the roof clear and I think the fact that the cabin is on top of a ridge - wind - keep the deck clear. I have a building at home with the same pitch and a cedar shake roof that stays clear all winter regardless of the amount of snow.

Good idea - paint stick - must remember that!

Egon... I never label stuff so I have a lot of surprises when I go to the freezer!!!!

why did you swap the nice wood cook stove for a cheep shop stove...

Schmism,

The large cook stove was not in great shape and would not hold a fire more than 3 hours.
Unfortunately this project is a cooperative thing between two brothers and sometimes you loose the battle to win the war

The new stove will hold a fire for 6-8 hours no problem. I have the old stove and when we board in the porch as a sun room I will install the stove there... summer kitchen...

Well another glorious weekend was spent at the cabin. I started insulating and generally working around the place and making a list of things to complete. It got cold, -11 Celsius / 12 fahrenheit in the evenings. First night was fine but the morning was cold. I drove back to the local hardware store and loaded up with insulation and vapor barrier. Within 3 hours I had the north side gable, north side wall(& corner) & north west wall done. Now I think the stove is too big - talk about hot during the day!!! I loaded the stove around 6pm. It averaged around 78 throughout the night - warmer in the loft. It was 12 fahr. in the morning - around 6 am outside but inside it was about 60 - perfect. I was up once during the night to throw a few logs on.

Can't wait for fishing season to start!

Glad to hear you are back to work on the cabin. The second pic, taken at night with the lantern on the porch and smoke rising from the chimney is very nice.
