62D MMM Creating Divots with Front Wheels

It is nearing 6 months since my dealer installed the "fix" to my 62D mower, which was the rounded caster wheels and grease fittings. Now that I've been mowing for a couple months, I can report that it is a night and day difference. With the new setup and regular greasing, I am having no problems. This is the way is should have been out of the box!

On a different note, but still related to the wheels on the deck.... When I try to mow close to things as I turn, the axle bolt on the back deck wheels can easily strip the bark off a tree or get caught on fixed structures. Have any of you good thinkers come up with a way to move the back wheels inward or at least reduce the way the axle bolt sticks out? I have considered putting a smooth cover over the bolt, moving the wheels inward, or letting them caster. I'd love to hear your ideas!

Thanks!

I just got mine back after the update, as this winter was the perfect time to get it done. Four new wheels and grease fittings on the front swivels. They told me they did every update that was available. Plus the front shafts had to be replaced as they had slight bends in both of them. Here are some pictures of the wheels and fittings.

Wow, I would really love some of those wheel fixes for my 62D. Now it seems whenever I turn, I take the lawn with me! Are there charges for such a fix?

On of my front shafts is also bent too. Does anyone know why this happens?

The drive over 62d deck is still great even with the wheel issue. Not having to push/pull the deck, and if needed you can carry it on the 3PT hitch (even easier if you have the I-match hitch.

Once I started greasing the swivel section, I have had no problems.

Just curious, how do you carry the 62D on the 3 point hitch without I-Match?

I paid zero as it was warranty. The shafts bent on mine because of the uneven ground and due to the fact the shaft is supported on the end and not in the center.

The 3pt can be used on the 62D w/o the q-hitch by changing the arrangement of the pins used to p/u the deck.

Here's the page out of the OM.

Incidentally, I just bought one, and the new 62D's are coming with the revised front wheel assemblies from the factory. They have the rounded wheels with grease fittngs on the axles and grease fittings on the spindles as well.

They still have the old-style square-shouldered wheels on the back though.

The JD online parts manual now shows both kinds of front gauge wheels on the
62D.

Mine that was delivered about a month ago has the rounded wheels all the way around as well as all the grease fittings.

I got mine back in May, it had the grease fitings on the wheels and spindles. I'm not sure if my wheels are the "updated" ones, but I mowed all last year and had no problems..

You have the old wheel. I just bought a 62d last week and it has the more rounded wheels. They almost look like very large roller blade wheels.
