thanks for helping. Seems the most popular pump is one that starts with the letter "S". My pump seems less common. It seems to be a later than is common Lucas CAV pump and not the more popular Lucas CAV DAP pump. I think

When I pulled the solenoid, i did not see a "rack" I poked around in the injection pump solenoid pump hole but nothing moved. What I saw was a small hole inside the injection pump. To me, it looked like the solenoid shafts rubber end simply works as a stopper. When the solenoid is activated the solenoid shaft retracts and unplugs the hole letting fuel into the pump.

Interesting. Could very well be.

I wish it at least smoked. I don't know why pump might fail. Pump shop guy said they can gunk up fast if not run. This tractor has been sitting a while. So long that when I replaced the fuel filter, I had to sand rust off the inside surfaces to get the rubber filter grommets to slide over. It was tough to get the filter snug up.

That doesn't sound good. Are you getting any fuel out of your injector lines?

I cracked a line at the injection pump. Nothing.

I don't know squat about pumps, but what does "gunk up fast" mean? Sitting for years should not destroy the pump.

Sounds like a rebuild is in order. Something is probably stuck in the pump, from how you describe the fuel filter assy, that would be my guess.. Maybe "thepumpguySC" will see your thread or look him up and PM him..

I have experienced corrosion before in other diesel injection pumps pumps that have sat for a while. One pump had a bladder that worked like an accelerator pump on a gas carburetor. Moisture caused corrosion and the rubber bladder stuck to the pump body. After I ran the truck a bit, the bladder rupture and the truck would no longer exceed 1200 rpm. I found the problem but still took it to a pump shop because I didn't have the parts or time. The pump was not ruined, but needed a couple of $.02 parts. I don't know about this one but could well be moisture corrosion has something messed up. Also, algae will grow in diesel mucks up stuff. Diesel breaks down. But, I know what you mean I just recently cranked Cat D20D off road truck been sitting for 6 years. I want this 6300 fixed up sold and out of my shop to recondition the D20D

Don't think pump is destroyed but something inside it might be stuck ?

Thanks so much everyone. I will keep at it. Thank for the lead on thepumpguySC. Will let you know the whole story on the tractor. But is is a long dirty sordid tale and will take a while to write.
