When I pulled the solenoid, i did not see a "rack" I poked around in the injection pump solenoid pump hole but nothing moved. What I saw was a small hole inside the injection pump. To me, it looked like the solenoid shafts rubber end simply works as a stopper. When the solenoid is activated the solenoid shaft retracts and unplugs the hole letting fuel into the pump.
I wish it at least smoked. I don't know why pump might fail. Pump shop guy said they can gunk up fast if not run. This tractor has been sitting a while. So long that when I replaced the fuel filter, I had to sand rust off the inside surfaces to get the rubber filter grommets to slide over. It was tough to get the filter snug up.
I cracked a line at the injection pump. Nothing.
