I do not know about the starter and generator yet, but am hopeful.

Can you take those off and take them to a shop to be tested before trying to put power on them?

I could, but I figure taking them off and testing or just trying them on the tractor comes to about the same thing. They either will or not. So far there isn't any sediment issues anywhere on the tractor or for that matter my friend house either. His sidewalks and patio's have extremely little residue. Most just from drying out.

The most I would do on the Genny or starter is a dunk in a bucket of diesel.

Odds are the starter and generator are fine. Good to hear it still turns over!! Think you'll have a fine tractor once you get a carb on it!

agreed.. starter and genny are very likely good. at most I'd rinse them out in a bucket of diesel. and then spin them by hand. My starter on my 541 ford was underwater in silty water in katrina floodwaters. it got rinsed and then put to work. Relay was replaced.. it got water trapped in it and rusted the plunger.

Thanks everyone for all the help. I have not gotten back to drain out the diesel yet. The grapples I had on the terramite bucket slipped and a 8' oak logged slipped and pinned 3 fingers on the left hand. Last 3 fingers severely bruised and 2 of them broken. Has put a damper on things for a week or 2. Between that and the xmas decorations (we put up 50,000 lights outside) I have had to hold up on the tractor.
