Back to the tread title, what color is a 640 supposed to be, as the pics shows it blue I thought they were supposed to red and gray kinda like the 8Ns. On the 800 we did get it to start and ran ok for having to spray gas in to the carb

These things are additive, I thought green and yellow was the machines to have but the Fords are a lot easier to work on and parts are a lot cheaper. How can I edit my profile

Well I removed the loader to gain access to the distributor and also I didn't want all the rotten hoses to bust. I filed the points and made sure I had fire to the points and plugs, sprayed gas in the carb and the ol' thing fired up it ran pretty good while we sprayed gas into the carb. I took my chances and put gas in the tank ( wanted to see if the carb needed cleaning or not ) to my surprise the carb didn't need to come off to be cleaned. The engine runs real good but I do have some smoke and blow by, another thing I had to do was get the blue tip wrench out and heat up the right hand spindle and while my dad turn the wheel I greased the sh$t out off it to get the old grease, dirt and water out now the thing turn really good.

What oil for the transmission on the 640, also what oil goes in an SOS trans

/ 640 with loader #32
I use the Universal Tractor Fluid (UTF) in both the transmission and hydraulics. I think that most folks do the same. I have no knowledge about your SOS tranny.

Thanks for all the info, hope someone will chime in on the SOS oil

/ 640 with loader #34
hyds holds about 2g of utf fluid.

I'd put utf in the trans and diffy for now too.

you will soon be replacing the filed points.. but for now they will be fine.

rings may be stuck from setting.

put a quart of atf into the oil, and a half quart in the gas. pul lthe plugs and put a couple tablespoons down each hole and let it set a day.. run the engine over with plugs out to slig the oil.. then start back up...

The rear tires are 13.00 x24 there are from my forklift, the tires that came with the 640 we put on the 8N, yes the front axle is about shot I'm gunna have to go get it bored and bushing back to std and get a new pin. As for the radius arm it is a little bowed but the right isn't the trunion balls have a lot of wear and slack

unless the balls slip out of the socket completely.. they are a non issue.

a chain and bottle jack can usually straightent he arm.

a metal slug, lead weight or penny can be put int he socket behind the ball.. so can a piece of inner tube.. works great..
