I have a 1996 7235. Within 2 years of ownership my tractor broke the ears of the motor due to the tractor flexing in the middle. This was supposed to be remedied by a modification installed by Cub. The motor breaks where the front and the rear of the tractor are bolted together. This also bent the clutch which was replaced. This happened at about 300 hrs. At 1000 hrs the injector pump went. At 1035 hrs it statret smoking. The shop said it needed a complete rebuild. It also needed a new clutch. I know of several other people in the area who are experiencing this problem. Any one else out there. Also you can not buy a short block, you must purchase these pieces seperately and as you know cub rapes you piece by piece. If I could afford to I would change brands.

Sounds like tough times with your Cub. Of course, what we don't know is how the tractor was treated from the beginning.
Even the other brands are not indestructible, but I don't mean to imply that you were too tough on this one.
Just that it may not be a 'normal' thing for all Cubs. I don't see where others are having the same problems, or they don't want to talk about them.

Tractor has been babied. Still two motors and 2 clutches and one fuel injector in 1035 hrs. Most of these tractors people are talking about have less than 1000 hrs on them. they aren't even broke in

I was getting ready to reply to another post when I read this and a couple of others by you cubhater. I’m sorry to hear of all of the bad luck you have had with your Cub but I wanted to ask you a couple of questions. I have a 7234, 1995 or ‘96 Cub, 23 HP, Sychro with a Bush Hog FEL that I bought new but it still has a little less than 200 hours on it. It has a clutch but I thought the 7235 was a Hydro so when you say excessive clutches I’m a little confused about clutches on a Hydro unless they are like the clutches in an automatic transmission. Like beenthere says do you know the ownership of this tractor, where it came from, used commercially, etc.? This may be a stupid question but were you aware of the problems with some of the bolts that hold the engine/transmission together have to be periodically retorqued? If they're not, things happen that I thing have happened to yours. I’m not trying to pick your post apart but something doesn’t add up. For the most part myself and about everyone else that posts to this and other forums I’ve been on can’t say enough good about the Cub and very little negative. You’re right on about the filters, I almost croaked the first time I bought them. You might want to fill out your profile so people know a little more about you/your equipment.

I bought the tractor new. It has never been abused. I check for loose nuts constantly. And yes the hydro does have a clutch which costa about 300.00. There is a little pedal on the left side of the tractor for shifting ranges. The tractor has a fel and a 7.5 backhoe. Check your owners manual under clutch and see if it doesn't have the same clutch as your gear drive. I also have a 2160 and a log splitter which I love.

Hey Gunny! Sorry you have had that kind of luck with your Cub. I've kept an eye and checked the torque on the bolts on my tractor but they have never been loose that I could tell. I would imagine that the backhoe may cause some bending stresses on the machine as well. There was someone in a post some months back that had broken the ears off the mounting area and it was causing him some major heartaches. You've probably read that the smaller, up to about 30HP, Mahindras are the Mitsubishi engine/drivetrain and look identical to yours and my Cubs only in red. I work with a retired Gunny here in Maine that is a few years younger than you but I'm not sure what unit he retired out of. Take care.

I guess you define major heartaches as between $4,000 and $5,000.

The only person I have seen which might have nore hours on their tractor 723X and 727X is (Abbeywoods) under cubs vs kubotas. There are a few comments about cub dealers not wanting to sell a certain model due to implements be hooked to the motor. The only other person who came close to my hours was (Justaplain) under injection pump who has 850 hours. And he needs an injector pump. The rest of the people have 100 - 400 hours on their tractors. This is hardly enough time for the break in. I would like to hear from some people who have at least 1000 hours on their tractor .

Hi! I'm Lucy. Dad's put up with me (and I with him), since August of 2001. He's told me that before I came to live with him and Jeanne that their tractor was "Pearle", a Farmall "H".
Before Dad and Jeanne got me, I had a backhoe stuck to my butt. I didn't like it, so I broke, Dad bought me, had me fixed, and we're now living a happy life. Dad says "thanks, Cubhater, for bringing a little life in here, but it's not the Cub, it's the backhoe"

Thank you for the laugh, I guess yours was broke in half. Perhaps we should send this story to the people who are selling these little yellow backhoes to unsuspecting customers because the colors match. The dealer told me The tractor and the hoe they match, they are both lemon yellow and are a craft. I said thank you, here's your cash. He said thank you , please come back. But he is no longer selling cub cuts, just lawn tractors Just out of curiosity, how many hours are on your cub?
