Robert. I agree dealers have to make money also. But to take an alternator from $100.00 to $695.00 (someone calls the cops) is robbery. This is not profit. This is pure greed. Dodge had a little more faith in their engine as it gives a 7 year warranty. There are numerous mentions of these motors breaking and there are warranty issues. The issues with the people I know are with cub as they said this was abuse, not an engineering problem. Yes I will get rid of the cub, and I will take a terrible loss because of all the problems. And as far as four answer of see your local dealer, he can't make decisions about warranty, only the factory can.

I had 1100 hours on my 1978 1450 and that was a 14hp Kohler gas engine. Diesels should outlast a gas engine by more than 2 to 1. I put 145,000 miles on my 1980 Bonneville diesel and that was a poorly designed engine to start with.

I've got a 7264 with a Daihatsu engine and a BH.
Do the older Cubs have the same type sub-frame mount on the hoe as mine ?
Although I've not heard about a problem with my engine ; what should the torque on mount bolts be ?
Thanks

Dalbert, Our servicing dealers make all warranty decisions and then we make the final decision. The dealer never stated it was a "factory defect". Factory defects do not last 6 years and then fail. That's called "use" or "abuse". Without seeing your unit I can't tell. After researching your situation I believe it to be use and incorrect maintenance.

Also, you forgot to tell these people that you improperly maintenance it.. damaging the engine itself. You damaged the unit and then you wanted Cub to cover it?

It doesn't work that way.

Robert Please tell me what maintenance I did to harm the tractor

2/9/05 you stated "I just got done rebuilding the injector pump and installed 2 injectors"

The engine damage occurred when you filled the #1 cylinder with fuel and then tried to crank the motor. How do we know this? The cylinder still had fuel in it when it was brought into the dealer.

How is this a factory defect or fault of the tractor? You performed the maintenance yourself.

I suggest you sell the unit and start over with something new.

But whatever you get, leave the maintenance up to authorized technicians.

When I said i just got done rebuilding and installing the injector pump, this was a bad choice of words, I should have said my cub dealer just installed the injector pump. Would you like me to post the receipt?

Tractors breaking at various places at either end of the torque box is not really that unusual. My Grandfather and my Father farmed all their lives and between them and all their buddies I have seen just about every mechanical ailment possible as well as a few broken completely in half. These were not these toy tractors either. These were real field pounders. All tractors need religious nut and bolt maintenance and with the 7000 Cubs I suspect it really is done rarely properly. Reason? You have to dismantle sheet metal and rods to get at the bolts that hold the engine, clutch housing and rear section together. It's a real PIA to do right. Even if you do dismantle, getting a torque wrench on some of those bolts is impossible. Just not enough clearance. I suspect some aftermarket loaders may be a problem for the 7235. The rear mounts for that model have to be the type that are connected by a web that goes under the belly of the machine. I'm not so sure all the available loaders for that model use that style. If you have problems with injection pumps I would sure start looking for water. 7000 Cub water filters are a joke IMHO and you really need to drain the tank and filter the contents about every 3 months. I just did mine and got 2 cups of crap that would not pass through the filter. You need a good filter funnel. Not the cheap Mr. Funnel either. The $60 Mr. Funnel is good but too expensive. You can get the same quality filter from one of these racing places for about $40 shipped. These little guy's are complicated, expensive toys. Compared to the old machines they are EXTREMELY high maintenance. I suspect a lot of people that have them think they do the maintenance but actually just scratch the surface. Sometimes when I look at mine I just shake my head, walk away and wonder what I've gotten myself into.........

I have a 1998 7260 with a little over 800 hours. I've had a couple of small nit picky type problems, that's it. I also have a Cub 7.5' BH on it that has seen extensive use. My dealer had two 7305 Cub rental units. He sold them last year with over 1000 hours each. You know these rental units were used hard... He told me, and his mechanic confirmed separately, that they were both pretty much problem free.

Based on my experience, that of two friends with Cub tractors very similar to mine, and of my dealer, I'd say your problems are not typical. I hope you can resolve your problems and can rack up many problem free hours on them. Good luck

Corm

P.S. - I probably should have added that I have a sub frame on my BH.

Corm Yes I do have a subframe on my bh. It is also yellow, because the dealer told me if I bought a woods and not a cub there could be warranty issues. The yellow bh is also a woods identical except in color. That yellow paint is about as expensive as green. It is a 7.5.
