DVR, Why r u selling? What type of work did you do with it? As you can tell from this post I would have no use for the bush hog.

What do you think about a bh? Is that neccessary for what I will be doing? Dealer claimed I would add another 6k to the price.
I grubbed .6 acres last winter.
I would not have even considered it had I not had a BH

New to the TBN and new to the search for a tractor. I have been looking around this site for a coulple weeks and have not found the answers to what I would like answered. My needs are ripping out brush, stumps and small trees that has overtaken the shorline on my 10 acres in Northern Michigan. The land is 98 % woods, mostly hardwood trees with the junk trees near the shoreline. I will also have other needs later, but for now this is what I need. My question is what unit would be best. I have been mostly looking at the B7510 ($13,000k) and B7610 ($14,100) w/fel. Why? Well, I think the ground clearance on the BX series could be an issue. That is the out the door price including the 6% Michigan sales tax. I have been told by two dealers that for what I am doing I don't neccessarily need a bh. Will these units w/fel fit my needs and are these good prices for each unit?

Thanks fellas!
If given my choice between a BX with a BH and B without a BH for doing this task I will take the tractor with the BH hands down.
Get a BX or get a B with a BH but don't get a tractor with no hoe no how.

I am thinking the same thing... I am not sure I will be able to drive into the lake and rip the brush out w/ just a loader without getting stuck. I would feel better on land and then reach out with a hoe and pulling it all back. One of the dealers was a Woods brand bh distributor that claims the Woods is superior to the 'bota bh. Something about it has it's own hydraulic system, seat etc... Thus it would have more down force power. Any truth to this?

Northshore,

I have a B7500 with backhoe. When I purchased it I really wondered how much I would use the backhoe. I have not been disappointed. They are very pricey but in the long run, especially if you are financing a new machine it is not a huge difference. If you can do it, do it.

By the way, my property is also heavily wooded (27 acres). I believe you will want the ground clearance of a B over a BX....good choice there.

Good luck!

I have a B7800, I would love a hoe but really can not justify the price of 1. 8 grand will buy a lot of other attachments. I was just out yesterday clearing some scrub growth near one of my rivers. I knocked over about a dozen 3 to 5 inch trees about 25 feet tall. the 4 & 5 inch ones go over better than the 2 inch ones. there are a few kinds of trees with deep tap roots you have to dig at but most the root ball comes right up. you do have to be careful about the root ball. I push at 4 or 5 feet up to loosen it in the ground the get it lower so the root ball isn't under the tractor when it goes over. As far as using a hoe on a tractor this size for clearing the edge of a pond I would use extreme caution. You can pull yourself into big trouble. When you disturb the the muck in the pond the bank looses its integrity and your facing the wrong way to pull yourself out. Make sure you anchor yourself to a tree with a winch so you don't go in. You will not be the 1st to have pics of your tractor under water

1*Which hangs out further behind the tractor and takes up clearance space.
~~~~I've also heard the woods BH requires removal of the MMM which would be a big PITA for me as I never remove the FEL BH or MMM.~~~~
All great advise fellas. I had a dealer tell me yesterday that for my needs he would strongly suggest nothing smaller than 30hp. That puts me in a 7800 or L series which he quoted me at 15,900 which I thought was too much. They (Kubota) are running some good rebates until March 31 so I will get it done by then.
It would be great if you could swing the B7800 an if your financing I would go that rout. That said if you can't the 7610 will be fine. I bought mine last summer for 15,300 but then you add a tooth bar and forks and ballast box BLa Bla Bla.and it adds up. The tooth bar is a must and cheep. as far as ballast there easy to make and Mad will set you up with forks. The information on this sight is great
