I have a NH 1320 and I use forks sometimes to move skids of firewood. I have to stand up to see where the forks are going into the skid . I am looking at a new Boomer . Maybe I can see the ends of the forks without standing up.? TC34DA. anyone know? Maybe I have to put the seat on a piston with extenable seatbelts.

I think you must be confusing me with somebody else.. i never said any o fthe things you claim.

I'm 'for' the use of unmodified safety devices. like rops and etc..

I was merely stating i understood 'why' the poster said what he did.... engineers like to 'plan' for things.. and like to 'think' they have all the bases covered.. When in reality.. you can't. That why space shuttle burn up upon reentry.. and unsinkable ships sink on their maiden voyage... because you can't plan for everything.. or overengineer for all eventualities.. etc.

Umm, an Engineer ought to know about Standards of Care. An Engineer should know that you can't plan for everything (that's the difference between Engineering and Science), and that if certain safety features are widely available and suitable to the task you darn well better be using them regardless of what you think about them personally.

Is your own life worth any less than the life of your Client? If not, then why do you take better care of your Client's life than your own? Or do you really ignore standard practices in your professional work?

For some situations.. it's all there is.

I'm not saying that is a good thing.. just making an observation.

That is very true. I thought about it frequently this weekend. I was pulling a 14 foor mower with a Case 830 (mid 60's era). No ROPS, no seatbelt. Was having to mow across some gentle hills, but there were tons of ant hills. Hit an ant hill with the uphill tire and you get a real pucker. Jumping clear would be the only chance you had on a tractor like that.

But, looking at the position of the steering wheel, all the leavers, close in fenders etc, I figured jumping clear would be about as successful as jumping upward in a falling elevator right before it hits!:D

Sorry Soundguy, that was for mboulais. I wasn't very clear, though.

Total agreement from me.

Hey, I dismounted my B last year, hopped off the station to the right and my shorts caught the 4 wheel drive lever.

Ouch.

Don't mow in shorts anymore.

The Mythbusters proved that jumping up in an elevator just before it hits bottom does no good. I love that show.

I like the show too, but the futility of jumping up in a run away elevator is pretty much common sense if not simple physics. Still, its fun to see it put to a practical test.

Well that's obviosuly a different thing altogether. Physicists refer to it as the Warner Brothers Phenomenon. A similar phenomenon can be seen when Wiley Coyote (Eatabus anythingabus) hovers in mid air by flapping his arms vigorously. He can't do it for long....but he can do it!

All forms of physics break down at the extremes whether its black holes or muons. I'll be happy to discuss those but the Warner Brothers class of phenomena greatly exceed my intellectual powers.....but apparently the folks at ACME have a firm grasp on them.
