I decided to change the engine oil and filter, and the hydro fluid and filter at 50 hours. It's not really due until 200 and 400 hours respectively. But I figured it would be cheap insurance. Turns out this insurance really is not that cheap.

The attached bill shows a total parts cost of $220.20. The single biggest expense was the hydro filter, which is $85.49. This is not a typo. My dealer is a relatively high volume CUT dealer with two locations. They did not have this filter in stock and had NEVER SOLD ONE BEFORE! The parts guy said people don't bother to change this filter because it costs too much.

Is this true? Has anyone else ever changed this filter on their 3X20?

What kind of oil did you use? Hopefully, you didn't take out your "run in" oil...your rings will not be happy...

I have not actualy done anything yet. The oil I bought was the JD 15W40. Are you saying I need to leave this oil in a while longer?

The manual says change engine oil at 200 hours but if you look under the hood, it will say change engine at 50 hours and then every 200 hours which is what I did. I plan to wait on the hydraulic oil change at the recommended interval.

No, I'm not saying that. I don't know whether you do or not. However, sometimes it's important to run the oil that comes in a new engine for the specified interval because it is designed to help the rings seal. I don't know if this applies to you or not, but someone here probably does...

That filter is more like a screen that can be re used. I had it on my Ford 1700. It is basically on mine was a stainless steel pleated filter much finer than my electric shaver screen. I used a toot brush and some diesel fuel and I cleaned to new condition,

There has been much discussion about this topic here in the past. I contacted JD Tech Support a few months ago for my JD 3720 and they said change according to the decal under the hood. My JD dealer shop manager told me the same thing so I changed all fluids and filters at 50 hrs, and he strongly recommended using JD 10W-30 Break-In oil for the first engine service and then JD regular 10W-30 diesel engine oil for all subsequent changes (according to decal). His argument for using Break-In oil is to seat the rings properly.
Yes, the hydraulic filter is very expensive and my dealer also had to order it. Think it was around $75 a few months ago.

KB, for what it's worth, my 3320 was coming up on 50 hours and I looked at the individual prices for the filters and almost croaked. I did find a filter kit on e-bay that contained two engine oil filters, one hydraulic filter, one air filter and one fuel filter for "buy-it-now" price of $119 shipped UPS ground for $10.75 total $129.75. Looking at JDParts, the individual part prices are...

Filters Air, engine primary RE68048 $22.99
Filters Fuel filter MIU800645 $12.04
Filters Oil, engine M806419 $7.56
Filters Hydraulic filter LVA13065 $92.96

Total, $143.11 w/ TN tax $156.35

The seller's handle is "thegreendealer".

Not a whole lot in savings but sure better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, I guess.

Here's a couple of posts on the subject of filters...
