955 & 855 John Deere
With 50 acres and an abundance of lawn / trees I purchased a 955 with a loader and 72" belly mower to maintain the property. The machine has 290 hours and performs like new. Then of course after purchase I find an 855 with mower, snow blower, wheel weights, cab, and blade with 1,000 hours at a very attractive low value. Having no self control they are both in the garage. For tight front lawn mowing I have an older Cub Cadet, 20 hp hydro that is quite agile in and around the dog park fence and trees. Appears my shopping future is declining in the area of land maintenance. What else do I need to?

Welcome to TBN

Forks for the loader, brush hog for the woods, thumb for the forks, chipper for the brush and small limbs, tiller for the garden or food plots, hydraulic top arm, quick hitch (iMatch) for 3ph, to name a few. All depends on you and what you want to accomplish. Good on your purchases so far. (y)(y)

Have forks for the loader ( built them days after the tractor purchase ) , have 6' bush hog, 7' flail mower, 6' rototiller, I match quick hitch, weights, 3 point blade, a front mount gravel blade, just have to create a mount. A lot of this was purchased / used with a D15 Allis. Bought and sold two Harley rakes.

Welcome! Both are good machines, but having two very similar machines is kinda redundant. Happens to most of us here.

Tractors are like firearms, you can have enough - but never "too many".

When the attachments value equal the purchase price of the complete machine, hard to say no. I realize they are 30 plus years old but a thousand hours doesn't seem to be excessive service usage. Great trade / sales merchandise when one looks at new prices. Diesel, 4x4, large frame, 24 hp, 3 point ,good hydraulics, and John Deere quality standards ...... better than money in the bank. One on Craigs List with a loader for 17,500, That is three plus times what I paid and it has twice the hours. Several decades back I was buying early 1960s Corvettes as used cars for 2 to five grand. May be redundant but glad I kept a Half dozen.

I bought a 955 with loader, 72" midmount, tiller, and 3 pt rotary mower when I bought my place in 1994 and it has severed me well with nothing beyond normal maintenance items. The only annoying items were the idler pulleys on the midmount mower deck required replacement several times, the deck manual shows greased idlers but the design was changed to "lifetime lubricated" before my deck was made and their life isn't that great.

3 years ago I bought a Kubota F2690 with 72" rear discharge mower to take over mowing duties (5 acres). It provides a nicer cut than the Deere midmount deck because it doesn't have the heavy tractor wheels ahead of the deck and it is faster. It also lets me leave the loader on the 955 all of the time, mowing with it was too awkward.

You will like the 955 and 855, both well designed compacts that are pretty simple to service.
