I'm considering the purchase of either an A&B or Sundown subsoiler at my local MF dealer. The A&B unit weighs 138 pounds, with the Sundown at 115 pounds. The A&B costs about $350 with shipping and the Sundown goes for about $265.

I purchased a subsoiler at TSC (FarmForce by Tarter Gate) that lasted less than 5 minutes. One soccerball-sized rock in clay soil twisted it into a pretzel. The welds between the main shaft and the frame all popped open and the frame collapsed, which bent the spreader on my quick hitch. I'd rather that this doesn't happen again. TSC was very good about refunding my money after I declined a replacement with the same model.

Any experience with either the Sundown or A&B subsoilers?

I didn't see the sundown but the a b unit is shearbolt protected which is what would have saved your previous one, another company that makes a good unit is bison.
I would love to own one of these James Engineering - Heavy Duty Super Subsoiler I dont know if they have any stocking dealers in the US though.

I bought the A&B subsoiler and on Saturday used it to break up some heavy clay soil. It performed very well and seemed to penetrate close to 1½ feet. I was also able to remove a couple fair-sized rocks with it. It would be too tall for any tractor much smaller than my AGCO ST35 (MF 1433).
