Ahh heck; If'n your vehicle breaks down in the middle of a busy intersection and blocks traffic what happens to it?

Does it remain in place while one tries ineffective ways to remove it or does it get removed by whatever means possible in the shortest time frame possible so as to maintain safe roadways for the rest of us???

I wonder about the tractors they use to tip it; did they have R1 or R4 tires? What tire type would be best for tipping trailers?

I'm sorry but that story is really funny...

They will probably rebuild it with a little duct tape.

Would a hydrostat or gear trans work better to roll a trailer?

Thanks for the posting of the eye witness.Unfortunately the media these days fail to see their obligation to report the story with many of the facts.Dare I say that sometimes their own personal opinions come shining through.After reading both sides, It seems to me that the reporter may have been trying to dramatize it, and make it appear as tho the police didn't care. When in fact it seems to me that they did everything possible. Surely far more than I would expect form the police here.
the fast is regardless that hey were 'felons' it was a bad move. Bad decision as to the solidness of the trailer.
I wonder if the other two companies would have even attempted it , I'm sure they would have known what to look for before hand and wouldn't have attempted it.
I can understand how it appeared to us the readers. After all we stand by as we see candidates spend million to get elected , and we don't demand to know what they stand for, just that they will do this and that when elected.
The bad one her is the reporters, the dramatize it knowing its gonna get reactions . and it did.

I hate freeloaders and dirtbags and that sounds like what this crew is. The media only reports enough info to stur the pot. I don't have anything against them personally, however I don't like freeloaders and when I read the news story my BS alert went off, I originally thought that perhaps they were in such straits, and the sheriffs quote was cherry picked form a 2:30am interview however the more I dug the more the story reeked of journalistic sensationalism and the less sorry I felt for them.

I still don't agree with the sheriffs comments, I think he should have said no comment or something more professional.
as for the quote where he said that he could have arrested them for being stupid I wonder if what happened is that the reporter was pestering him at 2am when he was trying to clear the road, so when the reporter asked a stupid question and the sheriff exclaimed that he could "arrest them for being stupid", and then went on to explain that they didn't have a permit, a escort vehicle, or a trailer that was safe to move. which statement the reporter (in the best journalistic fashion) cherry picked the first part and put that in his story.

After reading the posts copied from other boards, (and just believing half of it) i already know enough.

I can imagine the frustration of the sheriff, trying to stick his neck out for a bunch of lowlifes that lack any responsibility, cant get nor keep a job but do need the sherriff, for which services they dont pay tax. Then they also try to make a scene in the media, hoping that the public community would cough up another $5000 to pay for the trailer.....

I'd say, send them a bill for 11 hours of sherriff work, including overtime, the wrecker companies, the costs of cleaning up the mess, the cost of waste disposal and also let them spend the night in jail for riot.... Well the night in jail is maybe not a good idea, these parasites would enjoy the night in jail only because of the free lunch !!!

I just came across this thread. After reading a couple of paragraphs from the linked news story, I checked the story's date. I really expected it to be April 1st.

I don't know how much of this stuff is true, not to mention which part is true, but if the Sheriff really thinks that road is a "federal highway," he is sadly misinformed for someone in law enforcement. US 68 is a state highway, and he should know that.

Now I can't get the image of Jackie Gleason as Buford T. Justice standing in a field of full of fiberglass insulation out of my head.

Now I don't know that area, nor do I know whether the road's name is correct or not, but the "US" stands for "United States". A state highway would be named "SH 68".
