I guess looks depends allot on who is looking but personally I agree with you.
the AC Bs are a little homely an seems to be more dated then other tractor of that
period... Don't think the AC Bs were a very popular tractor. I haven't seen many
of them around.

From a collectors point of view any old iron is a treasure but for being useful
around a homestead, tractor without hydraulics & some sort of rear hitch have
limited value... Can't speak for all AC B's but the one my father in law had
didn't have hydraulics an only a draw bar in back...

I have a Farmall C & Super C with Fast Hitch, the super spent the last 30 plus
years as my main lawn mower, snow plow an driveway fixer upper. Today it's
retired an waiting to be restored... .

Allis Chalmers made the B from 1937-1957. They sold 118,101 Allis Chalmer B's. During its production run there were a lot of upgrades from the original model. The B was and still is a popular tractor but it doesn't have to collectability of a JD M yet.

The popularity of the A-C B may also depend on farming locality and type of crops raised.

It does but if you remember right, farming back in the 30's and 40's was a lot different then it is today. Most farms were small and the B was a good little tractor for them. You will find the little AC- B's in all parts of the US if you look hard enough. What is funny is that I see more little B's around here then I see JD M's or Farmall A's. They are a lot nicer to work on then my M's are though. Such a simple and small design makes working on them fun. Not much sheetmetal or parts to get in the way just like my TN /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I don't see that many around either, but they sold in big numbers, they were very popular, here and in the UK and elsewhere. I see a lot more letter-series Farmalls, I think they must be more popular with collectors and restorers..

The AC-B was a good little tractor, biggest problem was only a 3 sp trans. A plus was that it would make a lot more power than a farmall A. Factory rpm's was around 1400, a little shortining of the gov spring would give you around 2000 rpm's and 30 or so hp

Think it all depended on where you were located. In the area
I grew up, it was row crop country with a few dairy's. The two
dominant colors were orange an red...

If the color was orange, you'd likely see a AC WD sometimes
a AC C... If the tractor was red, it's a Farmall H or M and a
few C's here an there.. .

Don't remember seeing many Farmall A's, usually you'd find
them along with AC G's in areas where they raised garden crops.

I'm wondering if AC ran the production figures for the B's with
those for the AC C's. The two tractors except for the front axle
are very similar. I've seen allot more AC C's then B's...

Where I grew up it was grain/ grass farming country. Most farms were 3/4 to section in size.

Common tractors McCormick Deering WD9, WD6,W4, AC-W45, John Deer two cylinders and Farmall M. A few Case and other brands. The AC-B was quite common. Ford 8N's were not.

For the large tractor The WD9 and John Deers were in equal porportions.

There were 84,030 AC C's made between 1940 and 1950. AC made some nice machines and I still miss my WD 45 /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif There is something about sitting behind the rear wheels of the 45 that I loved. Especially looking down that long hood from back there /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif That reminds me, there is one for sale in the local paper here I have to call about.
