A few questions about Ford 1510 tractor

   / A few questions about Ford 1510 tractor #31
I just looked at my Ford (which by the way is a 1710, but I believe many parts interchange with a 1510) the oil filter is a Fram PH43. It holds 5-6 quarts of engine oil. My hydraulic oil drained out really clean, so I did not flush it with anything, just gave it a good hour to drain, to be sure.

Motor oil? Shell Rotella T, Mobil Delvac, Cenex 518 Superlube, are just a few that come to mind. Basically, look for a diesel rating and 15W40 weight, and you'll be fine. The 1510 is normally aspirated, so you don't have to worry about the oil being cooked by a turbo.

Okay, thanks guys this is a big help. As you can probably tell, I haven't owned a diesel before, so this is what I have:

Hydraulics:
1736 Napa filter. You need tractor hydraulic fluid which meets Ford Spec 134. 6-7 gallons.

Engine:
Oil filter is a Fram PH43. It holds 5-6 quarts of engine oil It must be diesel rated and 15W40 weight.
Shell Rotella T, Mobil Delvac, Cenex 518 Superlube.

Marveltone:
Since you have a 1510, and Wolfy has a 1710, can you confirm the filters above? Seems they would be the same as a 1510, but just want to make sure and maybre save a trip back to the parts store.

Maybe most of the differences in the 1510 and 1710 is engine HP? Basic tractor the same?

Steep learning curve, which you guys that have been around these for a while it is probably 2nd nature.. I am like a sponge and absorbing all this info.

From what I can tell, the 1510 has 5 less hp. The rear tires are a little smaller. They both have a 3cyl engine and the same 12 speed transmission...so I would think they would hold the same amount of fluid. Now, I wouldn't etch in stone what I've said. But hopefully it gives you a start.

Thanks again Wolfy, by no means am I doubting you. You guys seem very knowledgeable on these tractors. I kinda figured the tranny was the same so the capacities and filter should be the same. Me being new and didn't want to damage anything, was just looking for confirmation. this is a great group, and very willing to share knowledge. Just wanted to say that I really appreciate all the support given. Maybe one day I will be able to contribute.

Thanks
Mike

That's a pretty good assessment.

1510: 22 hp (19.2 PTO), Hyd. fluid: 4.5 gal., engine oil: 4.2 qts.
1710: 26 hp (23.5 PTO), Hyd. fluid: 4.75 gal., engine oil: 5.6 qts.

Very similar tractors. The 1710 is slightly bigger and more powerful, but that's about it.

Mike I hope your Ford serves you as well as mine serves me, I'm become very fond of them, simple, no frills but does the job. I also should point out, you should check the 12 bolts that hold the front frame to the engine block. It can be a problem area if these bolts loosen. Wolfy

Mike,

While you're at it you might also change the engine coolant and check/clean the air filter. I guess you got all the specs you need?

When I was using the tractor for a couple of hours, I took the radiator cap off with a towel so as not to get any possible spray. No spray, but put a thermometer in the coolant and it read 178 degrees. Coolant looked good, nice and green. Will monitor it though.

Air filter is on my short list as well.

As for the specification sheets, I probably have the vitals, however they would be nice to have but it is your call. I appreciate all the help and info provided here.

Will also check the bolts on the front end, thanks for the tip.
