You want to shorten the top link to gain height.

Thanks, I will shorten it. I did adjust it longer to change the pitch of the blade, thinking it would dig in better to move material.

What about the hydraulic arms, any way to know if they are lifting all the way up?
Seems it is maxed out and still has some travel on the lifting lever left. I would say the lever is about 3/4 in the up position when it stops.

Going through a learning curve here.

It's been my experience that there's always lever travel left at full height. I don't think you have anything wrong with your hydraulics. Like
Wolfy said, shortening the top link will gain more height.

Glad you like your tractor so far. Keep us posted!

Wow, what a difference. I screwed the top link all the way closed and now have 18 inches of lift. Thanks guys.

Yep having fun with tractor. I have used tractors in the past just never owned one. Usually everything was ready to go when using other tractors.

Thanks again

No problem. You'll find that you'll be adjusting the top link quite a bit to suit different jobs, applications and equipment. Even going from digging to spreading lose material with your blade will necessitate a change in the top link. After a while, you'll start getting the hang of where you want it for the different applications. Meanwhile, keep experimenting with it and have fun.

Thanks again for the info.

Finally got to use the tractor for the first time yesterday. It came with a scaper blade, I was flatening the top of a little hill, I was impressed with the power it has.

Another question:
How do you know if you are getting maximum lift from the 3 point hitch system?
The blade only comes off the ground about 4-1/2 inches. Is there some sort of adjustment to make sure that max lift can be obtained? The links from the lift arms are attached to the outer most holes (away from tractor) on the 2 lower lift bars. Looking to make sure the upper arms are getting full travel. As I remember the outer holes have the least lift capacity.

Thanks
Mike
Move the links from the lift bars back toward the tractor to gain lift height. Try the center position on a temparary change and measure the change in height. The closer to the tractor the higher the lift rises. It also affecth the lift capacity so make sure the changes you make still lift the implements you have.
P.S. The change of the links needs to be verified as I havent changed mine for lots of years and may have forgotton which way to go. Someone else can jump in here.

Well, had fun with the tractor again today, until the hydraulics quit working. After searching and reading similar posts. Sounds like I may need to drain the hydraulic fluid, flush, and change the filter since I have no history on last service work on the tractor. After lrtting in sit for a half hour or so, I cranked it up and the 3 point hitch lifted, si I immediatley loaded it on hte trailer and brought it home.
Is the filter a dealer only part or is there a cross reference for one that can be purchased at a auto parts store? Also what type of Hydraulic fluid does this tractor take?

P.S. I am still looking for a owners manual

Greaton:
Would you be so kind as to scan the specifications sheets.

I believe it is a 1736 Napa filter. You need tractor hydraulic fluid which meets Ford Spec 134. 6-7 gallons.

Thanks Wolfy,

Any insight on the engine oil filter cross reference as well? I will go ahead and change that at the same time. Doesn't deisel motors take a different oil than gas engines? What type and weight?

What would be good to flush the differential out with to remove any gunk?

Also what brands of Hydraulic oil and engine oil would be good and which one to stay away from?
Tractor Supply stuff any good?

It must be 15W40. TSC sells a very good engine oil called Traveller. They sell 2 hydraulic oils. One is cheaper. You really want the other. Maybe $10 difference per 5 gallon bucket.
