A Harrowing Experience......

You might learn from some of my former mistakes. On a lawn we were re-doing years ago (it had a lot of slope), we worked and smoothed and planted it. Several heavy rains later, there were some foot wide & deep gulley's in a few spots.

So I dilligently filled them in and replanted, only to have it wash out again. Finally, I got a little smarter: I left the gulley's just like they were until the rest of the yard was lush and established. Then I filled the gullies A LITTLE HIGHER than the surrounding grass and reseeded. I also packed it down really good. Problem solved. The former gullies became lush and green.

Of course, it takes having some available dirt to utilize later. Have fun. Wish I had a disk and a place to use it..........

I mixed my Bermuda seed with couple bags of play-sand then dumped it into my 3pt spreader, it also works with clover for over seeding.

Beenthere,

I have not planted the other 6 acres yet. They are currently being cleaned up from being clear-cut logged in May. I am documenting that project in This Thread.

It will probably be fall before those acres are seeded and I will most likely plant winter rye-grass and then over-seed with common bermuda in the late spring.

dlgmt,

What is your sand-to-seed ratio? How did you get the seed and sand mixed evenly?

CBF,

Pretty land you have there. That bermuda is going to be as thick as hair on a dog's back!

I like bermuda because of the hot dry summers we have. It grows very slowly, and goes a long time between cuttings. If it weren't for the weeds and rough grasses, it would never need cutting.
