A new seat for my 422

There were those other colors available, and as much as I liked the blue I didn't think it went well with PT green. The yellow one would look pretty bad after a season of work.

I appreciate the fact that no one gave me heck for the dirty PT. When ya have a well that only produces 55 gallons a day, and your solar-powered home is cooled by evaporative coolers ("swamp coolers"), and there's been a heat wave....

.... you don't wash vehicles or tractors until summer's over.

You are all OK, despite what they say about PT owners in the Mahindra forum. ;o)

The price has gone up on this seat. I got mine off Ebay also. When you sit in the seat, the seat will lower about 6 in. Mine is on my Kubota. Does your head hit the ROPS when you first get in. I think that TSC carries this seat, in different colors. I think the colors are red, black, yellow, and blue.

I've had one of the tsc seats for a couple of years. It does put your head closer to the canopy and I have flattened my fedora at times when hitting bumps. I wonder if the canopy could be raised by cutting and piecing of the rops. That may weaken it some but can't picture putting myself in a position with the PT where I would get rolling so hard that I would collapse the rops. One advantage I found was the higher seat height put me in a more comfortable position for steering. I removed the suicide knob as it was just in the way with the new seat.

I still use the suicide knob but the higher seating position puts my knees periously close to the edge of the "dashboard". I can imagine knocking them on it during serious bouncing and may try and figure out a way to lightly pad that part.

I'm still not used to the ride: it sits higher and, with all the suspension, isn't stable like the old stock seat. That is, it slightly teeters from side to side in addition to the up and down movement. The stock seat is much more stable and I feel more "glued" to the machine.

But it's not uncomfortable and if it helps on the long work days, my back will be thankful. If I change my mind it'll be quick and easy to change back. But so far, so good.

I put the foam pipe insulation on the front corners of the steering pedistal and took bug tywraps and wrapped them around the pedistal.

This is exactly the experience I've had over the last year or so with my TSC seat. I've whacked my knees a few times early on, but it doesn't happen any more (I think you automatically train yourself to avoid it somehow). I never really got used to the teeter-tottering effect, but my kidneys just couldn't take the constant impacts felt when using the stock seat... so the TSC stays on. Note: I've migrated the stock seat belt over which can help a little bit with stability issues...

Good luck!

Thanks, Kevin. I guess I'll get used to it too. I haven't had seat time for weeks. I thought about installing a seat belt to help with the teetering effect. I haven't had one tho because I want to be able to jump if the PT starts to roll or something, since I don't have a ROPS. I'll probably put some foam on like BobRip too.

Having, experienced the need for a seat belt several times in the PT, I'm not sure I'd operate it without one. My seatbelt has saved me from either banging my head or going airborne out over the steering wheel too many times...

Dear Kent,

Isn't the general consensus
ROPS= required seat belt
No ROPS= no seat belt

The latter is supposed to reduce the chances of being crushed.

Personally, I hate not having a seat belt, but everybody is different.

All the best,

Peter

You're correct, but only the PT-180s and PT-422s come standard w/o ROPS, and many people put the optional ROPS on the PT-422s...

Again, I personally wouldn't want to operate ANY tractor on my property without both a ROPS and a seat belt...

Because of "head room" issues underneath the ROPS on my 425, I also don't think one of these suspensions seats would be a good fit either....

And people put the optional ROPS on 180's. I wouldn't be without one, to many falling branchs in the back woods.
