A question for those who open carry

I think of the open carry guys as 'decoys'. They draw the fire first.

TBS

I have never read a story where that happened. I think bad guys in general are not looking for a gun fight. They are looking for easy targets, so they can get something for nothing.

I *have* read about open carry guys getting their firearm stolen. I wouldn't walk around in public with hundreds of dollars on my belt, where someone could snatch it. I would keep my money hidden and less accessible to others.

I like it. I am also interested in your mount under the rear seat of you're F150. While I use the center console and the rear seat is not easily accessible, still would like to know your method.

Okay, I took a few photos and will try to attach here. First, I have an extended cab. The safe was not made for installing in a vehicle, but is doable. The safe is mounted under the narrower of the two rear seats, each of which lifts up. The safe had two holes in the bottom for mounting. After marking two holes underneath the rear seat using the safe as a templet, and after carefully checking to see drilling there would not cause any issues and that I would have sufficient access to push bolts up from the underneath for small bolts, I drilled two holes. I stuck carriage bolts in thru the underside and into the cab - using large washers on the underside to fit over and handle the square part of the carriage bolt just below the round head. I used duct tape to hold the bolts in place while I went into the cab to stick the safe over the two bolts. Then, used lock washers and nuts I tightened the bolts up and the safe was secure. I use a couple pieces of foam to protect contents from the bolt heads which protrude a bit into the save - could also use acorn nuts as well.

It would take a very ambitious thief to try to pry it out from the inside, or try to unbolt the round headed carriage bolts from underneath. Also, I cover the safe with a bit of black trunk liner fabric so the safe is not readily visible even if you lift the seat.

This is used when I need to leave the gun, or anything else (if small) of value for a short time. When I am in the car and carrying, I keep the gun on me, concealed.

BTW - here is a link to the safe I bought and mounted:

If it is summer time I take it off and lock it in my truck along with MF Jones, my highly protective dog.
Please don't leave your dog locked in a car during summer unless you leave the motor running and AC on. It only takes a couple of minutes for the inside to heat up to over 140F. My dog loves to "go" but unless I am only going to be a few minutes out of the vehicle and can leave the doors locked and AC on, he has to stay at home.

IMO some of you folks need to get real...America does not need the average citizen out running errands and going to the grocery store, the auto parts store, etc., etc...to be carrying...period...
...I love guns and think everybody should have one ( or several) but the last thing I want to be close to is some amateur idiot that happens to have a ccp trying to save the day when there is a a lot of citizens about... so why do you feel the need to carry?....I am a gun lover and shooting enthusiast...member of the IRA for 48 years....just don't get the need...

IRA? You are one to talk about amateur idiots! :D. I'm assuming a typo but couldn't resist.

The Irish Republican Army (IRA) is any of several armed movements in Ireland in the 20th and 21st centuries dedicated to Irish republicanism, the belief that all of Ireland should be an independent republic. It was also characterised by the belief that political violence was necessary to achieve that goal.

You're welcome to your opinion, so don't carry...simple. But you shouldn't criticize those of us who do...
