I had discussed this in the "customization" forum, and since it's done and working I thought it appropiate to post the photo here.

I installed a Supertrap muffler on my 422 a week ago. It provided a significant decrease in noise. The machine is now only as loud as a normal lawn tractor (which is about half as noisy as it was). I initially installed it according to the directions, with a hose clamp. As I expected, after about a half hour of stump grinding it fell off, with the sudden increase in noise making it obvious what had happened. I reattached it temporarily with a couple of screws and will weld it on next chance I have.

Total price for it was $90, which included the muffler, resonator and three 3-paks of discs. The application says to use one disc for each 3HP, so I should have needed 7 but since you buy them in paks of 3, I put all nine on. I've noticed no reduction in power, only less noise.

Thanks for the pic and info...looks like a muffler on a muffler? This won't have any negative effect on the engine I /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif hope!

I can't imagine anything bad it could do, as there's no perceptible back pressure with those 9 plates installed.

Hmmmm, the application I read on the Web said to use 1 disc per every 7HP, and you are using 9?

It's one disc/7hp for the 5", and one disc/3hp for the 3". The 5" wouldn't fit on my PT without some major muffler mods. I wanted something simple.

How did you fit it on with the square pipe coming out of the muffler?

Mine has a round pipe coming out of the muffler. I figured there have been enough different mufflers that I should show a photo of the one I have, but I didn't realize that ones like mine had a square final exit pipe too. Guess that's one of the fun things about the PT..... the ol' box o' chocolates from Forrest Gump.

Just an update. Finally tried out my new MIG welder this weekend and attached the SuperTrap permanently to the PT exhaust. When reassembling the SuperTrap I used the recommended discs (seven instead of the previously installed nine) and it quieted the little machine even more! No problem with power that I could notice.
