Hillbilly,

You certainly have had more than your share of problems... Unfortunately, there is no lemon law for tractors as with automobiles, but hey I really think you have a fighting chance...

I don't know what went wrong this time, but if it's major... I'd be having a nice dinner with the selling dealer and John Deere rep...have some serious discussion, like finding out how soon they would have your new 4410 delivered...

There's a time to draw a line in the sand... and say enough is enough...

Its no big deal,it just a little work they did not get right the 1st time around. They had put a new hydro and differental lock in it back in the spring and when they put it back together it leaked a small amount at the seam. Also the new fuel pump they put on it back in the spring never had been right, and I could not afford to give the tractor up again back then because they had it for 3 weeks and I was already behind, the 1st of March is a really busy time at these places everyone is getting ready for spring. After they brought it back the last time I went out to start it and guess what same thing as the 1st time but not as bad.I would say about 3 times out of 10 when you try to start it you would have to disconnect the lines on the fuel pump and run fuel out of the hoses etc. to get it to fire (about a 10 minute job)I do not know exactly what I was doing to get it going unless it was a check valve or something sticking. They are a good bunch in the service department up there and it will probably be back later this week.
On another note I asked them about a new JD 4600(26 hours) hydro setting on the lot with hydraulics for a bucket(coincidently they are selling the buisiness today) and the salesman told me $18,100 today and today only and I finance it. I then asked him about trading the 4400 in while it was there at the shop(I knew this was not going to be pretty) and he told me my JD 4400 and $8500 and I could have the 4600(I am glad I was sitting down)he said it was hard on trading with my tractor being it is as new as it is and I agreed $8500 would be somewhat difficult so we graciously exchanged goodbyes and shook hands and parted ways. My 4400 is an 11/99 model the 4600 was a 2000 model,I told him it must have been an early 2000 since it had the old style axle. I think if I took this JD rebate and penciled in an extra 0 after the $900 I might go back and see him. I guess it is going to be me and the 4400 for a couple more years.Oh well I need to build a deck and do some other things around the homestead. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: A happy day indeed,JD is back!!!

Well,
My JD is back home all cleaned up (I going to have to call and thank them for the cleaning) they fixed the leak on the rear end,but they were not able to duplicate the starting problems.Everything checked out ok!!They suggested I run off the road diesel and see how it behaves,I have been told 2 different things by 2 different dealers.I also add diesel fuel conditioner to my fuel. They told me that if fails to start again,to come them and they would send someone down and look at it. At least they are trying. If we get that problem mastered hopefully it will be smooth sailing.
